Start the recipe with the marinade. Take a small bowl and add the olive oil, soy sauce, fresh lemon juice, fresh ground pepper.

Stir to combine and add the fresh salmon and cover all sides with marinade. If you have time you can leave the salmon in the fridge for 10 minutes.

Else you can take your Instant Pot out and add 1 cup of water to the inner pot and add a trivet.

Put the fresh salmon skin side on top of the trivet. Close the lid and secure then select the Pressure Cook or Manual option.

Set the timer to 3 minutes for fresh salmon and 5 if you use frozen salmon.

When the cooking time is done quick release the Instant Pot and serve immediately to prevent the salmon from overcooking.

Tips For Cooking Salmon In Instant Pot

You can make this Instant Pot salmon frozen or fresh. Both options work just as well. If you can’t find fresh salmon, you can often find frozen salmon fillets in the freezer section of your local grocer.

Keep the skin on. Salmon skin is not only edible, but it works as a moisture barrier, keeping the salmon from drying out.

Try adding different seasonings for more flavor. I recommend using lemon pepper seasoning or your favorite brand of seasoning salt.

Don’t skimp on the resting time. Just like with most animal proteins, salmon continues to cook as it rests. Resting the salmon also allows the juices to settle and redistribute, leaving you with a medium-cooked salmon fillet that you won’t be able to resist.

Don’t like salmon? You can use other types of fish too. Simply follow the cooking instructions as written, keeping in mind that you may need to adjust the cooking time by a minute or two depending on the type and thickness of the fish fillet.

Try using this instant pot salmon recipe with cod or another cold-water fish such as trout, seabass, or halibut.

Is Frozen Salmon Still Good For You

Yes!! Frozen salmon is good and keeps its great taste for up to four months in your freezer.

As long as its properly frozen inside freezer bags with the air sucked out it will still have great flavor when cooked. Of course you can thaw fillets overnight and make smoked salmon which is amazing.

How To Tell When Salmon Is Done

Salmon and Vegetables | How to Cook Salmon in Instant Pot

Salmon flesh will change from a raw to translucent to opaque as it cooks. When salmon is done, it should be flakey and moist but not wet. There are several ways to check salmon doneness:

  • The best way to check doneness is by inserting an instant-read thermometer into the middle of the thickest part. It should read 135 to 140°F in order to reach the safe minimum of 145°F after several minutes of rest before serving.
  • The next best option is sliding the tines of a fork between two segments of flesh and twisting slightly to expose the center. When done, the flesh should be translucent and semi-firm . If the center looks raw, it will need more time.
  • The last resort is the touch method. Press your fingertip lightly on the thickest section. It will spring back slightly when done, versus jiggling somewhat when still underdone. When overdone, it will be firm and resist your touch.

What Internal Temperature Should Salmon Be Cooked To

Salmons internal temperature should reach 145°F during cooking for safety reasons, according to the FDA. Note that the internal temperature will rise another 5 to 10°F while resting, especially when covered with foil or a plate to retain heat. Therefore, you can often reach the FDA guideline by removing from the heat at 135 to 140°F.

To measure the salmon cook temp, simply insert an instant-read thermometer into the center of the thickest part of the fish. Alternatively, you can use a dual-probe thermometer to monitor the entire time while cooking.

    Instant pot salmon foil packets

If you love to can veggies or other foods, and you own an Instant Pot, you may be wondering if you can do canning in an Instant Pot.

The answer is you can, but it is limited, and not all types of canning processes can be done in an Instant Pot.

There are two ways to can foods. One is called water bath canning, and the other is called pressure canning.

The pressure canning is the type used most often for foods with low acid levels, and water bath canning works the best with food that has a high acid level.

Thats because high acid foods will be able to kill any bacteria so you wont get food poisoning. Meanwhile, low acid foods cant do that unless you mix the two types of food together. That can be done by adding in things like vinegar or lemon juice.

So, how can these methods be modified to be safe if you want to can using your Instant Pot? Here are some ways to do that:

    Water Bath Canning

Firstly, you have to make sure your canning jars are sterilized, which can be done in an Instant Pot.

Put some water and vinegar into your Instant Pot, then put the number of jars that will fit onto a rack and put it inside the Instant Pot and close the lid. Then run the Instant Pot steam cycle for at least a full minute.

Next, pour in more water and vinegar into the Instant Pot, then pour the food into the hot jars and be sure to leave at least a quarter-inch of headspace in the jars.
