How To Make The Best Instant Pot Ribs

Instant Pot Country Style Ribs with 4 Ingredients!

Unlike other rib cooking methods, which take hours and require active tending, making ribs in the Instant Pot is hands free and comparably fast. The Instant Pot locks in moisture and makes the ribs tender in a fraction of the time.

In addition to the use of the Instant Pot itself, I have a few key tips to ensure your Instant Pot rib efforts are richly rewarded.

  • Use a Dry Rub. To start your ribs on a delicious note, cover them generously with a delicious dry rub.

The rib rub recipe Ive included here uses basic pantry staples you probably already have, like chili powder, garlic powder, and cayenne, to give the ribs loads of flavor. If youd like to make the ribs more spicy, feel free to bump up the amount of cayenne.

To balance the spice, I also add brown sugar to my Instant Pot Ribs rub. I grew up loving the brown sugar/molasses flavor of Kansas City BBQ, and the brown sugar reminds me of some of my favorite KC BBQ joints.

The amount of brown sugar isnt overly sweet by any means. Youll love it here.

  • Liquid Smoke. It might sound fancy, but liquid smoke is widely available at most grocery stores . You can also buy it online.

Please dont skip the liquid smoke. Because we are cooking the ribs quickly , the liquid smoke provides flavor that youd typically only get via longer cooking methods .

The two more common types of ribs are baby back ribs and spare ribs.

  • Dry Rub: In a small bowl, mix together spices for dry rub. Sprinkle rub over ribs and press the rub into the meat.
  • Prepare: Add beef broth, Worcestershire and apple juice to the pressure cooker. Place ribs, in the cooker and then top with BBQ sauce.
  • Cook: Place the lid on cooker and lock in place. Cook on manual, high pressure for 45 minutes. Once finished cooking, allow to natural release.
  • Eat: Top with extra BBQ sauce and serve.
  • Can Country Style Ribs Be Cooked In The Slow Cooker

Yes, you can definitely cook country style ribs in the slow cooker. Sometimes a slow cooker meal just fits better into your schedule. I totally get that! Follow the same steps of coating the ribs in BBQ rub and browning them on the stove. Pour the apple juice and liquid smoke in the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours. Follow the same instructions for broiling them after they are cooked.

These country style ribs are tender, juicy, and a quick and easy way to get dinner on the table in under an hour! Our whole family devours them and they are great meal to serve guests. They are rich in flavor and just good ol down home comfort food!

    Instant Pot Country Style Ribs

The other day, I wanted to make some of these BBQ country style ribs for dinner, but I didnt have enough time to cook them in the slow cooker.

    Enter: The pressure cooker.

You guys know by now how much I LOVE my Instant Pot. I use it nearly every single day.

I have an ever-growing list of easy pressure cooker recipes that I make on the regular, so my Instant Pot stays pretty busy.

So, I followed these guidelines for converting a slow cooker recipe to a pressure cooker recipe. Instead of requiring 6-8 hours in the Crock Pot, these cook up in a mere 8 minutes. Yes, you read that right8 minutes!!

Now, obviously it takes a bit of time for the cooker to come to pressure and to release pressure, but all in all, theyre still typically finished in under 45 minutes. And theyre moist and tender, just like theyve cooked all day.

How To Make Instant Pot Bbq Country Ribs:

Rub the ribs down on all sides with the BBQ seasoning.

After you season the ribs you will want to cut them into 3-4 rib sections to help them it in the Instant Pot and then set them aside for now.

Then, you are going to pour in the apple juice, liquid smoke, and vinegar in the bottom of the Instant Pot.

Once you have done that, place the trivet into the bottom of the Instant Pot .

Now, place the ribs on the trivet trying to not overlap them too much.

Then, cover the ribs by returning the lid back to the Instant Pot and turn it to lock it into place.

Also, be sure that the knob is turned to the SEALING position.

Once all of that has been done, press the MANUAL or PRESSURE COOK button and set the timer for 25 minutes.

When the ribs are done cooking let the Instant Pot sit for another 10 minutes to let it naturally release some of the pressure, and then turn the knob to the VENTING position to finish with a quick release and take the lid off once the pressure is out.

It is time to preheat the broiler to low heat, and then remove the ribs from the Instant Pot and move them to a baking sheet that is lined with aluminum foil.

Before putting the ribs into the broiler, spread the BBQ sauce on top of the ribs. After that is done, place them into the broiler for 3-4 minutes until the sauce begins to caramelize.

You will want to watch the ribs closely to avoid them burning or drying out.

How Do You Know When Country Style Ribs Are Done

You will want to check the internal meat temperature for pork and poultry especially. For these you need it to reach 170 degrees F to be safe to consume. I have never had an issue using my Instant Pot where they were underdone, never. It has happened with our Crockpot ribs just once though.

Cooking country style ribs has never been so quick and easy yall!! At the end you can either eat, spoon on some bottled sauce, or make your own with some ketchup, brown sugar and vinegar.

I typically am all about convenience and EASY recipes for your pressure cooker so I usually dont make my own sauces. If you have your own mixture that you swear by though, by all means opt for that one.

In that case you can make some that are fiery and spicy for some guests and very mild for the kids in your home. I like a medium heat so I can taste the rest of my meal. lol

I find that it takes about 45 minutes to get the meat to be super tender and juicy. This works for both boneless country style pork ribs and if they have a bone. The bone will just slide out and you will have pieces of meat to shred.

I like to wait to put the barbecue sauce on at the end, because otherwise it feel it gets watered down as the meat cooks and then it also changes the texture of the pork. The rub gives it enough flavor and then just toss with or serve with barbecue sauce at the table.

    Can I Use Frozen Ribs

Yes, you can put frozen ribs directly into the pressure cooker pot. If the ribs are separate, you dont need to change the cook time at all. For a large block of frozen ribs, add a few minutes to the pressure cooking time.

With frozen meat, theres no need to brown it first.

If youre using more meat to serve a bigger crowd, theres no need to increase the cooking time, as long as the ribs are all the same thickness.
