Is Meat More Tender When Cooked In A Pressure Cooker

Both slow cookers and pressure cookers do a good job of tenderizing tough meat, but each makes meat more edible in a different way. Steam penetrates food easily under pressure. So connective tissues in cubes of beef for soups or stews soften in 15 minutes or less, and a pot roast will be medium-rare in 30 minutes.

How To Store And Reheat Steak Leftovers

If you have leftover steak, be sure to follow these simple storage and reheating instructions.

  • To Store: Wrap the steak tightly in plastic wrap or place it in a food storage bag and press out as much air as possible before sealing.
  • Flank steak will keep for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
  • To Reheat: Its best to place your steak on the counter at room temperature for about 15 to 20 minutes before reheating it. That way, it only needs a little bit of heating to come to the proper temperature. Less heat means less drying! From there, I recommend placing the steak in a covered skillet over low heat, and cooking until it comes just to the correct temperature. The correct temperature is 135°F for medium, or about 130°F for medium-rare.

Cooking Your London Broil

When your steak has been properly marinated and is ready to cook, remove the marinade by scraping off the excess garlic and shallots and patting the meat dry with a paper towel.

Add your meat to an oiled broiler pan or pre-heated cast-iron skillet and season with salt and pepper before placing the pan about 4 inches from the broiler, set to high. Broil for 6-8 minutes before flipping and cooking for an additional 6-10 minutes. When the steak appears to be nearing completion, check the internal temperature of the meat with a thermometer, removing the beef when it hits 125 degrees Fahrenheit. While the ideal medium rare temperature is 135-145 degrees, since the steak will continue to cook as it rests, taking it out slightly before it reaches this temperature guarantees the meat wont overcook.

After removing it from the oven, allow your meat to rest for about 10 minutes, tented with foil, before slicing into thin pieces. For the best result, cut across the grainrather than with itby slicing vertically through the lines running across the steak. Then, drizzle your slices with the pan juices before serving.

How To Cook The Most Tender London Broil: My Tips

The BEST Instant Pot London Broil
  • If youre not planning to marinate the meat for more than two hours, you can just cover it with cling wrap and leave at room temperature. However, if youre marinating it for more than 2 hours, make sure you put it in the fridge to avoid bacterial growth during the marinating process. Letting it chilled in the fridge helps the meat strand to relax and soak up those nice and delicious flavors and aromas that you want to infuse.
  • If you left the steak marinated in the fridge for about 4 to 24 hours, take it out 10 minutes before you bake it and let it rest at room temperature.
  • Sear the London broil on a screaming hot cast-iron skillet before baking to get the best flavor and color on it. Use a cast iron broiler pan and sear the steak for at least 30 to 45 seconds on each side before you put it in the oven.
  • The searing process creates a lovely crust and caramelization between the beef and marinate. It also seals the juices inside the meat to prevent it from leaking during the broiling process keeping it moist. Do not skip this step, its worth it!
  • To make sure you get a tender London broil in every bite, cut the meat against the grain. Cutting or slicing it perpendicular to the fibers helps the strands become shorter, making it easier to chew and have a tender mouthfeel.

Can You Overcook Beef In A Pressure Cooker

Unfortunately, once you overcook a piece of meat in the pressure cooker, theres no going back. You ll be left with a pile of dry, crunchy, tasteless fibers and no amount of additional pressure cooking is going to put that moisture back into the meat. Well, that doesnt just apply to potatoes, it applies to meat, too.

Favorite Instant Pot Accessory

I love my Instant Pot Silicone Sling. It is my all-time favorite Instant Pot accessory even more so than the Silicone Egg Bites mold. You will recognize it from many of my IP recipes. I use it all the time.

It replaces the metal trivet that comes in the box. Why do I love it? Because it has handles and I can safely and easily remove hot food when it is finished cooking.

Best Instant Pot London Broil with Gravy

London broil is easy to air fry but it needs a few tricks to stay juicy, tender, and perfect.

    • Make sure you marinate the London broil for 2 hours at least before cooking.
    • Use your air fryer at the highest temperature possible you want it charred on the outside, and cooking it hot and fast will prevent it from drying out.
    • Its okay to accommodate some steak up the sides of an air fryer basket if you have a round basket, but make sure you lay it out on a flat surface instead of bunching it up or folding it over on itself.
    • For an even sear, flip the London broil midway through cooking.

    Expert Tips From A Dietitian

Recipe for a Fall Apart, Juicy, London Broil Steak

This is a level 2 recipe . A serving of the London broil by itself is under 500 calories. However, with the pile of mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts, I had an over 900 calorie meal!

If you arent looking for a meal that is quite so hearty, you can easily switch the sides to make a moderate calorie meal. Swap the mashed potatoes for mashed cauliflower and go lighter on the butter. Use less oil on the Brussels sprouts, or serve salad greens with a light dressing instead.

The key to a lighter meal here is that you want to add in non-starchy veggies without lots of oil. Non-starchy veggies give a big boost to the volume of meals for very few calories. Added oils and fats, on the other hand, are very high calorie, typically 100-120 calories per tablespoon.

Remember that regardless of the dietary lifestyle youve chosen you need to maintain a calorie deficit to lose weight. If youre not meeting your weight management goals with your current plan, it might be a good idea to keep track of added fats. It can be really easy to overdo it with these healthy foods, including olive oil.

What Piece Of Beef Is Called As A London Broil

Well, as I am in love with this tangy flavourful meat piece I am happy to tell you this, The London broil is a preparation method and not a beef cut or a specific type of meat. The term London broil means that the beef is well marinated then seared and broiled nicely.

In some parts of the world, in some places around the globe, you find a specific piece named London broil and sold, but folks trust me, that is just to play some fancy name game!

Initially, this part was made out of flank steak, but over the years, this term got its influence over many lean and thin cuts of meat, thicker cuts, such as top round. Let me once again tell you, and you might find the London broil labeled as 1-inch steak or 4-inch roast that basically belongs to sirloin or circular parts of beef. These all cuts of beef are lean and quite much tough, this is the only thing these cuts have in common.

Even if the label wont dictate you how to cook the London broil, a London broil should be positively marinated for a reasonable duration and should be cooked explicitly on high heat flame. Instant pot London broil is relatively better and beneficial to taste more good quality of beef in lesser expenses.

What Temperature Should I Cook London Broil To

The internal temperature you cook your meat to is what we refer to as doneness. Whether your beef turns out red, pink, or grey in the center will all depend on that internal temperature.

In this recipe, I recommend cooking your London Broil for 8-10 minutes until it reaches about 115 degrees F for a medium-rare cut of beef.

For medium doneness, keep cooking until the meat reaches about 145 degrees F. For well done, youll want an internal temperature of 160 degrees F.

Keep in mind that the total cooking time is going to depend on the size of your top round.

As you can imagine, a 1-pound cut is going to cook faster than a 2-pound cut.

I always recommend using an Instant-Read Meat Thermometer to check for doneness to make sure your meat is tender every time.

Its worth noting that london broil does not refer to the cut of the beef but rather the process of preparing it. The process involves marinating the meat, searing or broiling it, and the most important part cutting it across the grain. This results in flavorful and juicy cuts of beef.

There are various ways to cook a top round london broil. You can roast it in the oven, grill it, or pan fry it in a cast-iron skillet. All that matters is that you cook it low and slow.
