Instant Pot Vs Power Pressure Cooker Xl

Power Pressure Cooker XL / Instant Pot â Easy Peasy Mac & Cheesy

I compare a lot of competing products on this site and today I’m bringing you one of my toughest comparisons for currently available-for-sale electric pressure cookers. So on this post you will find info about the famous Instant Pot line of multi-cookers vs the popular and efficient Power Pressure Cooker XL pressure cookers and how they differ from each other.

First of all, please know that buying the perfect electric pressure cooker to satisfy all of your needs is tough even with deep pockets – there’s always something we like and dislike about every model. And even after we got the perfect pressure cooker, we found out a better model just came out the day after.

There are so many models to choose from and they all are slightly different.

Some examples:

  • The Instant Pot line doesn’t get any bigger than 8-quarts while there is a 10-quart Power Pressure Cooker XL available.
  • Any Instant Pot DUO, Smart, or Ultra will make yogurt while the PPC XL will not.
  • The IP-LUX is cheaper than the PPC XL and does everything just the same.
  • The Power Pressure Cooker XL is better designed for people that prefer presets programs over manual control
  • The IP-Smart and IP-Ultra give you extreme customization of cooking programs, letting you set any program yourself.
  • If you live at high altitude the Instant Pot Ultra will adjust to your actual altitude for all your cooking.

The Prime Differences Between The Two Models

The main differences between the two models are as follows:

  • The Instant Pot has the yogurt function which the Power Pressure does not.
  • The Instant Pot has new and upcoming smart models, which the Power Pressure does not.
  • The Power Pressure has an extra large model of 10 quarts, which the Instant pot does not.
  • The Instant Pot is slightly more expensive than the Power Pressure.
  • Note – If you are looking for a large electric pressure cooker then the comparison stops here. The 10-quart PPC XL is the biggest made by either of these two companies.

    Which Cooker Should I Buy

When deciding between the two units, it ultimately boils down to the question- which cooker, either the Instant Pot or the Power Pressure Cooker XL is better fitted for your needs? Are you looking for something with canning/preserving or yogurt making capabilities? Do you want the ease of mind knowing that the Instant Pot comes with a one year warranty? All of these questions should be taken into consideration before a decision is made.

All in all however, the two cookers are relatively similar- that is, with its own unique differences . In the end however, no matter which you choose to buy, one things for sure- youll be able to make delicious meals with the press of a button!

    Best Multitasking Pressure Cooker

The Instant Pot Duo Crisp is a pressure cooker, slow cooker, air fryer, and sous vide machine all in one, making it one of the most useful and economical small appliances we tested.

    • Inner pot material: Stainless steel

    • Number of included recipes: 100s in the free Instant Brands Connect app

Pros: Features air frying and sous vide cooking options, comes with an app with 100s of recipes, easy to set up and use, cooks rice in under 20 minutes

Cons: Tended to build pressure and heat up slowly, didn’t sear well

We tested three units that could air fry or sous vide, but only the Instant Pot Duo Crisp Pressure Cooker could do both. The Duo Crisp comes with two lids: one for the usual multi-cooker activities and another with a built-in fan for air frying. And, an air fryer basket fits in the inner pot to allow for better airflow and flavorful browning. We air-fried frozen French fries and were impressed with how quickly they were ready and how crispy they tasted.

Other Instant Pots And Pressure Cookers We Tested

Power Pressure Cooker XL / Instant Pot – Pot Roast

We tested 11 electric pressure cookers for this guide. These are the ones that missed the cut.

What else we recommend and why:

Zavor LUX LCD: This model has more than 30 programmable settings, including sous vide, and an easy-to-read LCD. In our tests, it was easy to set up and use. It was quick to build pressure and made juicy, easy-to-shred pulled pork. However, we weren’t as impressed with its bean cooking and meat searing.

Ninja Foodi XL Pressure Cooker: The Ninja Foodi air fries and pressure cooks. And, in our tests, it did a great job of searing, slow cooking, and pressure cooking delicious meals but took longer than most units to build pressure. Read our comparison of the Instant Pot Duo Crisp vs. the Ninja Foodi.

Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus 80 : The Duo Evo Plus’s stay-cool handles set it apart from other multicookers since you usually need to grab potholders to lift a multicooker’s pot out. The pot also stays in place when you stir the contents. The screen is packed full of info, including several preset programs. It didn’t make our guide because it didn’t do better than average at any cooking task and was one of the worst at rice and slow-cooker pork.

What we don’t recommend and why:

There Are A Few Things I Dislike About The Power Pressure Cooker Xl

It doesnt have a saute or browning button, and it doesnt tell you when the pot is hot and ready to saute. Both the Instant Pot and Fagor signal you when its hot. Since Im generally impatient, this is a feature I really appreciate so I dont add food too soon.

There isnt a minus button to subtract time. You need to pick the button with the closest time and add time.

I prefer a stainless steel pot because you can scrub it, and dont have to worry about scratching the finish.

Despite the disadvantages, I do think the Power Pressure Cooker XL is a good value for an 8 quart pressure cooker for only $89.

My niece recently bought the Power Pressure Cooker XL at Costco and has fallen in love with it, and with pressure cooking. Theres also a Facebook Group, Pressure Cooking Fun, and many members of the group use and love the Power Pressure Cooker XL. It also gets good reviews on Amazon.

So if youre looking for an 8 quart electric pressure cooker at a more affordable price, the Power Pressure Cooker may be right for you.

Power Pressure Cooker Xl Pros And Cons

Cons of the Power Pressure Cooker XL:

Comes with a shorter 60 day warranty Comes with only 10 One Touch Preset Program Does not feature a yogurt making function Shipping costs can be quite high if youre sending it back for repairs

Pros of the Power Pressure Cooker XL:

Has preset canning and preserving functions Incredibly versatile when to comes to cooking food Cooks 70% faster than conventional methods Features a pretty nice digital display Comes in various sizes Most parts are dishwasher safe

    Advantages Of Power Xl Vortex

    • It has a more powerful heating element. Therefore, it can cook faster than Instant Vortex Pro.
    • The price of this unit is somewhat lower than the competitor.
    • It came to the market later than its counterpart. Therefore, we expect advanced technology in this model.
    • It has pizza function that is abesnt in Instant.

Instant Pot Duo Series Vs Power Pressure Cooker Xl

Power Pressure Cooker XL Review (2021 Update)

The Instant Pot Duo Series takes lead over Power XL due to its Yogurt Maker feature. You can make yogurt with a simple setting in your Instant Port Duo Series pressure cooker but not with Power Pressure Cooker XL.

The only advantage of Power XL over Duo Series is that it comes cheap and offers a higher capacity of 10-Quarts as compared to Duo Series. The Duo Series comes with various manual presets and its construction is based on safety as well.

The XL lags behind Duo Series concerning functions because it lacks the safety features that Instant Pot provides to its consumers. The simplest of the safety features of this type of appliance involves an auto steam release feature that is not present in the XL.

Power XL only has one feature that is not there in the Duo Series, and that is the canning system, but NCHFP and FDA dont recommend pressure canning your food. Furthermore, the quality of the cooking pot is a significant comparison factor. The cooking pot of the Duo Series is made of stainless steel while that of the XL is non-stick coating pot that is more prone to sticking or burning food.

Apart from price tag and capacity, there is no other reason to choose Power XL over Duo Series or if you intend to use it for canning. Therefore, Duo Series turns out to be the winner because it provides you with cooking safety, a stainless steel cooking pot and of course you can manually set your cooking programs as well.

    Best Smart Pressure Cooker

With its hundreds of preset programs and step-by-step interactive recipes, the Chef iQ Smart Cooker is outstandingly precise.

    • Capacity: 6 quarts
    • Inner pot material: Nonstick
    • Settings: pressure cook, sear/saute, steam, slow cook, sterilize, keep warm, ferment, plus 300+ preset programs in its menu
    • Number of included recipes: 1000+ in the Chef iQ App
    • Extras: Extra sealing gasket, steam rack, steam basket, heat-resistant pad for the lid

Pros: WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, a helpful app with 1000+ interactive recipes, full-color screen with 300+ present programs, quickest to cook rice and beans, good at searing, easy to set up

Cons: Didn’t do well in our pulled pork tests

The Chef iQ Smart Cooker has the best screen and most precise cooking options of any of the tested units and was easy to set up. Whereas other models have a button for beans, the full-color screen of the Chef iQ cooker offers much more detail. It has specific programs based on bean type, whether they’re soaked, and how much you’re cooking. The customization worked well. The Smart Cooker cooked a pound of beans perfectly 13 minutes faster than any other model.

Which Electric Pressure Cooker Is The Best

If you like the Instant Pot….

I tend to recommend the average consumer to steer towards the Instant Pot Duo 6-quart. The DUO line of pressure cookers are the best selling units from all brands across the board. They do just about everything average families need including a few features that aren’t as normal such as yogurt making!

In my home I prefer the 6-quart model over the 8-quart model because I only have a family of four so it’s enough for us. Moreover, most of the Instant Pot recipes available online are for the 6-quart model.

If you like the Power Pressure Cooker XL…

If you dislike manual control and want simplicity, I steer you towards the Power Pressure Cooker XL 6-quart model.

The 6-quart is just more practical and take less space on the kitchen. I prefer getting one 6-quart pressure cooker and one 3-quart pressure cooker for side dishes.

The PPC XL line of pressure cookers really excel at simplifying the cooking experience. You don’t do anything manual on the pot, just choose your preset cooking program and walk away. It will also do alternative cooking methods like slow cooking, rice cooking and many more.

What Does The Instant Pot Do

Comparison Between Instant Pot & Power Pressure Cooker XL on Sausage, Cabbage, Potato Dish

While weve briefly gone over what an Instant Pot is above, lets take this opportunity to take a closer look at the appliance.

A 7-in-1 , the Instant Pot was designed to consolidate the preparation and cooking of food to one device. Though the idea of such a multi-purpose cooker has been around since the mid 2000s, it wasnt until the recent years that its popularity exploded.

Why is it so popular? The answer lies within its design- not only does it boast multiple functionalities such as those that youd find in an electric pressure cooker, steamer, rice cooker, sow cooker, saute pan, and yogurt maker, but it also cooks meals much faster than traditional methods. For those whod rather not have to worry about the hassle of preparing dinner after work, it also features the option for a delayed programmable start time- that way, you can enjoy a freshly cooked meal upon returning home.

The Functionalities of an Instant Pot

Depending on the exact model, the functionalities of the Instant Pot may vary, though not by much. Generally speaking, the Instant Pot is capable of slow cooking, pressure cooking , steaming, sautéing, warming food, cooking rice and making yogurt. As you can see, it easily lives up to its name of being a 7-in-1.
