The test: To test how well the Instant Pots could sear and pressure cook, we made five batches of this recipe for chunky beef chili. We documented the sear on the beef from each model and timed how long each machine took to pressurize. We tasted each sample to evaluate the tenderness of the meat and overall flavor of each chili. One Instant Pot model, the Duo Pro, has a special inner pot that can be used on the stovetop, so we used this pot directly on the burner over medium-high heat to sear the beef. With the other four models, we used their sauté modes.
Heres what happened: The big reveal isno big reveal. Each chili tasted pretty much identical, which may be more of a testament to the quality of the testing of that recipe than the machines we used to make it. None of the five chili samples had bitter notes or off flavors. All of the meat was tender the meat cooked in the Ultra was almost too tender, losing its cube form and shredding a bit too much. There was, however, a clear winner for pressurizing timethe Duo Pro was remarkably fast, taking just over 5 minutes. The Duo Plus was the next quickest, taking about 6 minutes, and since it has a slightly larger inner pot, there was more surface area available for searing. The Duo 7-in-1, Ultra, and Max each took about 8 minutes.
Should I Get The Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid
The Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid is sold separately and is compatible with 6-quart Instant models that dont already have air-frying capability . The Air Fryer Lid comes with a fry basket and other accessories and allows you to air-fry straight from your pressure cooker. In addition to air-frying, the Air Fryer Lid adds broiling, baking, roasting, reheating, and dehydrating functionality to compatible machines.
What You Should Know Before Buying The Instant Pot Duo Crisp
The Start button is hard to see. When they redesigned the buttons on the Duo Crisp, they used red for the cancel text and green for the start button. In practice, however, the green is harder to read than the other buttons. Once youre used to it, its no big deal.
The display is smaller. The display has smaller buttons, a smaller font, and a slightly smaller display. Once you get used to it, however, this wont be a problem.
The Duo Crisp only comes with a Getting Started Guide. If you like to read manuals, the full Instant Pot Duo Crisp user manual is only available online.
The Air Fryer lid is NOT interchangable with other pressure cookers or other models of Instant Pot. This is NOT Instant Pots answer to the Mealthy CrispLid.
Sometimes you have to press the lid down on the lid sensor to make sure it is well connected with the base sensor.
You also need to have at least 5 inches of space all around the housing when you use the air fryer lid.
Count down change. Unlike other Instant Pot models, when there is 1 minute left, the timer counts down the remaining cooking time in seconds.
The air fryer lid beeps after 5 minutes, 20 minutes, and 60 minutes to remind you that cooking has completed.
The Delay Start and Keep Warm functions do not work with the air fryer lid.

Why I Like It A Lot But Dont Love It
While the Lux is an excellent piece of machinery, there are a few things I dont love about it that make it go from perfect to pretty good. For one, the steaming rack is all but useless to me. It doesnt have handles, and the spaces between the stainless steal wiring are too large, so smaller ingredients and vegetables slip through the slots and down to the bottom of the pot. This is a problem for me, considering the thing I steam most often in the pot is veggies. Unless Im cooking something large, I cant really use the rack and cant really fit large items in the pot. It would be more effective if the pot came with a steaming rack that had narrow slots, considering the pots smaller size.
Another issue I have with the Lux is the power cord, which isnt detachable. A detachable cord would make cleaning the crevices of the pot more seamless. When I can remove the cord, it also makes storage just a little bit easier too. The Lux doesnt have a place on the side of the pot to set the lid either, which can be annoying at times. I get water all over my counter when I open the lid and set it down after pressure cooking. I also wish the Lux came with a sanitize feature and extra accessories like a spare sealing ring.
