Im pretty versed at cooking , but man, I SUCK at cooking oatmeal!

This Breakfast Might Be Jarring
Ill admit that the creation of this instant pot oatmeal was largely due to selfish reasons. You see, my husband is an early morning runner and needs a lot of fuel to recover. Luckily, my meal prep game is on point when it comes to lunches and dinners. However, breakfast tends to be more of a struggle. Im telling you, this Instant Pot oatmeal is a breeze to make. Simply add all the oatmeal ingredients into the Instant Pot, then press the manual setting and set the cooking time for 3 minutes on high.
Once the cooking time ends, let the oatmeal to sit in the pot to natural release the pressurized steam for 20 minutes.
Flip the release valve to let out any remaining steam, then dish up your homemade oatmeal and enjoy!

Tips For Making Creamy Oatmeal
There are a couple of things to keep in mind when making this Instant Pot oatmeal recipe. First, I don’t recommend using milk instead of water in this recipe because it might burn in the pressure cooker. I find it creamy enough by just using water with this cooking method you can always add a splash of cream after cooking.
If you’re worried about oatmeal sticking to the bottom of the stainless steel pot, you can also try this non-stick inner pot instead.
Second, foamy foods can cause a messier splatter during the quick release depressurization. Others have recommended putting a paper towel over the valve during this process.
Finally, and most importantly, make sure to use a different sealing ring for sweet and savory! This is crucial or your oatmeal will taste like it was cooked with chicken broth. This is the 2-pack of sealing rings I bought I use the blue for sweet and the red for savory.

This is my favorite part! Adding different toppings can bring a new perspective to oatmeal and it sure beats prepackaged oatmeal to the curb.

Not only are oats a total powerhouse, but they are also so easy to prep, cook, and eat! You can make them in a microwave, on the stove top, in the oven, or of course, my favorite, in your pressure cooker. You can eat them hot in a bowl, crunchy on top of yogurt, or on-the-go in the form of a bar. Seriously, there is not a more convenient whole grain out there!

How To Store And Reheat Oatmeal
Homemade oatmeal is a great make ahead, healthy breakfast that is perfect for cold mornings when you just dont want to get out of bed.
Before storing, let it cool completely. To make breakfasts easy, portion out into individual containers. If you dont have smaller containers, one large one works too.
Store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.
To reheat, add ¼ cup of milk or almond milk and microwave for 1 minute. After one minute, stir and continue to microwave until warmed through. You can add more liquid if necessary to reach the consistency you prefer for your oatmeal.

How To Make Larger Servings
If you need to double or triple this recipe, I recommend using Method #1, as long as you dont fill the pot more than halfway full with oats and water. Cooking starchy foods, like oats, can create a lot of foam in the pot as it comes to pressure, and you dont want that starchy water to clog anything in the lid.
When you increase the recipe, you do NOT have to change the cooking time. It will take longer for the pot to pressurize, so the overall time that the oats are in the Instant pot will be longer, but you dont need to add any additional minutes.
How Do I Make Oatmeal In An Instant Pot
Its the easiest thing ever! You just need to combine the oatmeal with milk, water, and a pinch of salt in the body of the instant pot.
Using the manual settings, place the Instant pot on high pressure for 3 minutes. Make sure that the valve is set to seal. Itll take 5-10 minutes to come to pressure, then start to cook and countdown from 3 minutes. Once the countdown is complete, the Instant pot will beep.
After this, let the pressure release naturally for 15-20 minutes, then push the valve to vent to release any remaining steam, and open the Instant pot.
Enjoy the oatmeal immediately!

What You Need For Instant Pot Oatmeal
Other than an Instant Pot, you only need 4 simple ingredients you probably already have on hand to make Instant Pot Oatmeal!
Rolled Oats : Old fashioned rolled oats are a staple in our house. They cook much faster than steel cut oats, but you get all the same benefits. Make sure that you buy old fashioned AKA rolled oats. Do NOT use quick-cooking or steel-cut oats for this recipe.
Almond Milk: to make Instant Pot oatmeal, you need to use some kind of liquid. Our preferred liquid is unsweetened almond milk, but you can really use any kind of milk or water.
Maple Syrup: I love adding a little bit of sweet to my oatmeal and my favorite is maple syrup. Its warm and all-natural. Dont have maple? Try using honey or even brown sugar.
Salt: a little bit of salt brings out the nutty flavor of the oatmeal and heightens the sweetness of the maple syrup without needing to use more sugar.

Yes and No.
Though Steel Cut Oats are the least processed, the differences in nutrition are very minor.
- For example, Steel Cut Oats is a bit lower in calories than Rolled Oats, but equal in protein, identical carbohydrate count, similar fiber, hardly any sugar .
Then, Why Eat Steel Cut Oats?
The key difference is Steel Cut Oats is lower on Glycemic Index than other oats varieties.
Since Steel Cut Oats has less surface area than other oats, it slows digestion and causes the stomach to work longer to break down the grain.
