How To Cook Fresh Chicken Breast In The Instant Pot

  • COMBINE SPICES In a small bowl combine the spices and rub the spice mix generously over each chicken breast. Since this is a spice mix I use often, I usually make a whole bunch and store it in a jar in my pantry, this way whenever I need some chicken spice, its all ready to use.
  • SEAR CHICKEN Set the Instant Pot to the Sauté setting and add the olive oil to heat. When the olive oil is hot add the chicken breasts and sear on all sides. You might have to do this in 2 batches. Remove the chicken from the Instant Pot and set aside. Remember if you dont want to sear your chicken breasts and just want to shred it, you can skip this step.
  • PRESSURE COOK THE CHICKEN Pour the chicken broth into the Instant Pot, then place the trivet inside. Place the chicken on top of the trivet and close the Instant Pot lid. Seal the valve and set the Instant Pot to Manual/High Pressure for 5 minutes. Natural Release for 10 minutes, then quick release remaining pressure.
  • SERVE Transfer the chicken to a cutting board or serving platter. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing or serving.

What Is The Deep Poaching Method

    Instant Pot Chicken Tenders

The Deep Poaching Method involves cooking food submerged in liquid at a relatively low temperature.

This method allows the proteins to denature without pulling too much moisture out of the food. Thats why poached food comes out so juicy and tender!

Therefore, poaching is most commonly used for cooking delicate or fragile food that might easily fall apart or dry out using other cooking methods, such as eggs, fish, or poultry.

Why Cooking Chicken Breasts In The Instant Pot Works

QUICK AND EASY. Cooking chicken breasts in the Instant Pot is super quick and incredibly easy. It only takes 5 minutes to cook under high pressure and you are guaranteed perfectly juicy chicken breasts. I prefer to sear my chicken first on both sides so that I brown them a bit, but if youre simply using the chicken to shred to use in enchiladas or burritos, you dont even have to do that.

COOK FROM FRESH OR FROZEN. Thats right, you can cook chicken breasts from fresh or frozen, so if you forgot to take that chicken out of the freezer this morning, no worries. The only difference is that you cook them for 5 minutes longer, so instead of 5 minutes cooking time, youll cook them for 10 minutes. Obviously, you wont be able to sear them but theyll be perfectly delicious regardless.

SUPER VERSATILE. Cooking chicken breast like this is great because you can enjoy it with some gravy or use it in any number of dishes, plus its perfect for meal prep. I have lots of chicken recipes on the blog where you need shredded cooked chicken, so this is the best and easiest way to get that done.

  • Whats The Difference Between Chicken Breasts And Chicken Tenderloins

Chicken Tenders in the Instant Pot

The tenderloin is a distinct section of meat from the chicken that comes from the underside of the breast. If you are disassembling a whole chicken, you might see that there is a separate muscle there. This muscle gets less use, and is, therefore, more tender than the rest of the chicken breast.

Chicken tenders are smaller than chicken breasts, and therefore cook faster and more evenly. One chicken tender can range in weight between one and four ounces, making them excellent for portion control and perfectly sized for eating with your fingers.

Pork tenderloin and pork loin are not the same thing. Pork tenderloin is a very lean piece of meat that is long and thin, its about 2 in diameter and each tenderloin will weigh about 1lb. This is not to be mistaken for a pork loin which is about 4 across and a much larger piece of meat. They cannot be used interchangeably in this recipe.

I usually roast pork tenderloin in the oven at a high temperature just until it reaches 140°F . In this recipe it cooks quickly in the pressure cooker for a great weeknight meal.

When using frozen chicken breasts, theres no need to thaw them ahead of time. I typically dont even use the trivet when cooking frozen chicken, as you can throw them in the bottom of the pot and theyll thaw as the pot heats up.

When I first got my Instant Pot, I didnt even add water to the pot when cooking frozen chicken they thaw and release moisture, so its not necessary, though adding a little bit helps it come to pressure faster. I typically do let the pressure naturally release when cooking frozen chicken, as it needs extra cooking time when compared to fresh.

I hope youll find this pressure cooking method works well when you need to prepare a batch of boneless chicken breasts, too!

  • A trivet or vegetable steamer basket
  • Sauce of your choice, barbecue is easy and delicious but teriyaki would be great too.

The Best Instant Pot Chicken Tenders

We love making chicken tenders Instant Pot style – at least that’s what we call it around our house – and it is by far one of our favorite chicken recipes for busy weeknights.

The Instant Pot makes the process super quick and easy, and the result is just incredible.

And when we’re low on time, an easy dinner recipe like this is just what we’re in the mood to make, and eat.

Anyway, these Instant Pot chicken tenders are juicy, wonderfully crispy, and seasoned to perfection. And I have a secret ingredient that gives these chicken tenders an even better flavor.

And the best part about this Instant Pot chicken is that there is barely any prep needed – just a quick mix of the seasonings and slicing and coating the chicken breast is all you’ll have to do!

Also, since this recipe is so quick & easy to make – and the majority of the time is just letting the chicken cook – you can make these low carb french fries while the tenders cook, to create the ultimate meal!

Plus, these are fairly healthy chicken tenders. Since they’re not breaded and fried in oil – each serving is low in carbs and calories, & packed with protein!

How To Make Chicken Tenders In The Instant Pot

As with all Instant Pot recipes, youll need a thin liquid first and foremost. I like to use chicken broth to give the chicken a bit more flavor, but water would work if needed.

Then put all of your chicken tenders into the liquid. Pictured here, I use frozen but fresh will work too.

Season as youd like, I usually use salt, pepper and sometimes some onion powder.

For frozen chicken tenders: Cook on Manual HIGH for 6 minutes, followed by a 6 minute NPR before turning the knob to release the pressure manually.

For fresh chicken tenders: Cook on Manual HIGH for 3 minutes, followed by a 6 minute NPR before turning the knob to release the pressure manually.

This is what the chicken tenders looked like after 6 minutes on HP with the 6 min NPR.

Can you believe how easy that is? Now it is time to decide whether you want to slice, dice or shred the chicken.

If you want to slice or dice the chicken, I suggest waiting 5-10 minutes to let the chicken cool a bit before slicing to insure nice, clean cuts.

If shredding the chicken, I suggest using you hand mixer! It works complete magic in a matter of seconds!
