Instant Pot Pasta! You Will NEVER Cook It On The Stove AGAIN!

Egg noodles cook very quickly in a pressure cooker. The greatest risk is overcooking the noodles, making them very soft or even mushy.

After cooking many batches of noodles, I’ve settled on the best way to make Instant Pot egg noodles.

  • Combine the water and salt in the Instant Pot.
  • Add egg noodles. Mix gently, so all of the noodles are wet, even though they aren’t submerged in water.
  • Cook on high pressure for 2 minutes, with a quick release. If you prefer noodles that are truly al dente, then cook on high pressure for 1 minute with a quick release.
  • After the quick pressure release, stir the noodles.
  • If the noodles aren’t as soft as you’d like, set the lid back on the pot and let the noodles rest for a few minutes. They will continue to soften in the residual heat. They will also soften as they absorb any remaining water in the pot. After a few minutes, stir and taste again.
  • When the egg noodles are done to you liking, add a pat of butter for flavor. Remove the egg noodles immediately from the hot pressure cooker into a serving dish.
  • What Is The Pasta To Water Ratio

10-100-1000, said Felicetti. Thats the ratio of salt to pasta to water. So 10 grams of salt is the right amount to cook 100 grams of pasta in 1000 milliliters of water . 100 grams of pasta is less than 1/4 pound, so to better illustrate the ratio, multiply it by 5.

    How To Make Gluten

If you need to make gluten-free spaghetti, I recommend cooking the pasta in the Instant Pot without the sauce. Ive tested this method using gluten-free noodles, and the resulting one-pot pasta is way too thick and gluey in texture for my taste.

However, if you want to use the Instant Pot to cook your spaghetti noodles, its still helpful to make the process totally hands-off. Simply cook the pasta and water together using the timing I mentioned above, then drain and rinse the noodles under cold running water to remove the starch.

You can add the rinsed-off noodles back to the Instant Pot bowl and stir in the sauce, and if you need to heat it up further, use the Sauté function on your machine. If youd like to use ground turkey or beef, sauté it in the pot before adding in the sauce and cooked pasta.

    Instant Pot Spaghetti Squash

Instant Pot Pasta How To Cook Pasta In The Instant Pot ...

You can cook spaghetti squash in the Instant Pot in just 7 minutes, plus the time it takes to come to pressure .

I feel like the Instant Pot isnt always a time-saver, but in this case, it totally is. It normally takes me 45-60 minutes to bake a spaghetti squash in the oven!

Now, Im sure you could probably bake the spaghetti squash whole if you wanted to, but I much prefer to slice it in half first, so that it cooks faster and so I can scrape the seeds out easily. When you try to scoop the seeds out AFTER the squash is cooked, I feel like you lose too much of the good, cooked squash in the process.

How To Cook Pasta In The Instant Pot The Magical Formula

Let me leave a caveat here and say that this method may not work on every single pasta variety out there. There’s lentil pasta, quinoa pasta, buckwheat pasta, and so on. HOWEVER! I do think this is a perfect starting place for all of these kinds of pasta. If you find your favorite version of pasta was slightly under or overdone, then just make a note to add or subtract a minute the next time. Easy Peasy.

  • Add pasta to the pressure cooker pot
  • Add liquid: 1 1/2 cups of liquid for every 4 ounces of pasta
  • Add salt: 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt for every 1 1/2 cups liquid and 4 ounces of pasta
  • Add fat: 1/2 tablespoon oil or butter for every 4 ounces of pasta
  • Cook pasta for half the lowest package time, minus 2 minutes . When pressure cooking is complete, do a quick release of pressure
  • Reserve some of the starchy pasta water if you’re combining it with a sauce, then drain the pasta. Rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process if you’re not using it right away. A light drizzle of oil will keep it from sticking

How Long To Cook Pasta In The Instant Pot

Every brand and style of pasta will have a different cook time it can be hard to know for sure. What I recommend is cutting the cooking time in half and then determine the low-pressure cooking time. So if your pasta takes typically 12-13 minutes, then you want to low pressure for 6 minutes. Or if the cooking time usually is 10 minutes then you low pressure for 5. Now if you are going to use high pressure, the pasta needs a minute, or two shaved off more, so you dont overcook the pasta. So if you have pasta that is supposed to be on low for 6 minutes and you want to cook on high do 3-4 minutes on high.

The Instant Pot Pasta Water Ratio

How to Cook Pasta in the Instant Pot (Regular & Gluten-Free!)

I typically make a pound of pasta at a time, so the ratio I use is a pound of dry pasta, 4 cups of water, and 2 teaspoons of kosher salt. You can easily scale this up to a maximum of 2 pounds of dry pasta in a 6-qt. Instant Pot or down to as little as 4 ounces, depending on your needs. Just adjust the water and kosher salt accordingly.

See the table below for a quick pasta/water ratio reference:

Should You Rinse Pasta With Cold Water

Quickly and loosely drain the pasta into a colander in the sink. The starch in the water is what helps the sauce adhere to your pasta. Rinsing pasta will cool it and prevent absorption of your sauce. The only time you should ever rinse your pasta is when you are going to use it in a cold dish like a pasta salad.

Why My Instant Pot Is Spitting Out Too Much Foam During Quick Release

    Instant Pot Spaghetti

Therere a few reasons youre having too much foam spitting out of Instant Pot:

  • Milk, or any dairy product used as cooking liquid will cause excess foam. Ive had this happen when I used milk with pasta, when I was testing my alfredo pasta recipe, and it was NOT a pretty scene!
  • Some pasta brands tend to foam more than others. I never have this issue with Barilla and Italia pasta. I personally use Barilla and Italia brand pastas, and I never had foam spitting out of the pressure valve.
  • Overfilling the pot, or using too much water also could cause splattering.

Optional Brown Ground Beef In Instant Pot

*For Dump-and-Go Meal: skip the browning, sauteing, and deglazing steps below. Make sure to break the ground beef into smaller chunks, then layer the seasoned ground beef chunks, onions, garlic, dried herbs at the bottom of the pot.

First, heat up Instant Pot Pressure Cooker using Sauté More function.

*Tip: For older versions press Saute button, then Adjust button. For newer versions press Saute button twice.

Wait until it says HOT . This prevents the ground beef from sticking to the pot.

Add 1 tbsp olive oil in Instant Pot. Then, swirl your pot around to make sure the oil is coated over the whole bottom of the pot.

Now, add 1lb ground beef in Instant Pot, then season generously with salt & black pepper.

What Kind Of Ravioli Can I Cook In The Instant Pot

Fresh ravioli is quite delicate, and you dont want to risk everything turning to mush in the Instant Pot, so I dont usually use fresh ravioli in the pressure cooker. However, you could try it with a 0 or 1 minute cook time and see how it turns out.

Instead, this method is best for using with frozen ravioliand there are so many frozen ravioli options on the market these days. I almost always use a cheese ravioli , but you could also use spinach-filled or meat-filled if desired.

I also love that ravioli is usually flash frozen in individual pieces, so you can make a portion of a package if you are cooking for yourself or if you have a small family. This is one of my favorite easy lunch options!

What To Serve With Plain Pasta

How To Cook Pasta In A Slow Cooker

You can use slow cookers to make pasta as long as you dont mix the pasta in with the sauce and leave it sitting in the slow cooker for an extended period of time. Doing so will result in pasta that is mushy, soggy and unappetizing. For best results, keep the pasta separate until serving. Prepare whatever sauce or dish you are pairing with pasta in the slow cooker and then combine it with pasta that has been cooked al dente.

Does Tomato Sauce Count As Liquid In Instant Pot

No you cant use tomato sauce alone in the pressure cooker, its too thick. What I do is add a the sauce with an equivalent amount of water. So, if I add 1 jar of spaghetti sauce, I also add 1 jar of water.

Certainly, youre welcome to use any type of spaghetti noodles you like, whether they are veggie, whole wheat, or the classic kind. Each brand and style have turned out great in this recipe.

Also, you can also substitute the ground beef for ground turkey or even pork if you want.

It is totally about the preference of flavor of what you have on hand. For instance. We love hamburger in ours. But you are welcome to switch things up, it will still turn out to be one savory dish.

I love a good homemade spaghetti sauce. This Moms Sunday Sauce is a great recipe for the Instant Pot.

I know in our home we have two or three kinds and those are what we stick with. Every time I venture out I normally go back to wanting my old spaghetti sauce. This means you can pick out whatever brand you generally buy.

How Long Do You Steam Artichokes In An Instant Pot

If you are wondering how long does it take to cook artichokes in a pressure cooker, the answer will depend on the size of each artichoke globe. A medium size artichoke usually cooks in about 18 to 20 minutes.

Harvesting time also has an effect on the overall texture of the artichoke. For example, artichokes harvested in early spring and summer take less time to cook than the ones harvested during late summer and fall. Please dont let this discourage you. Ive put together a cheat sheet to help you figure out how long to cook artichokes in a pressure cooker depending on when you buy them.

    Artichokes Instant Pot Cooking Times

All pressure cooking times below are based on my testing. These times are to be used as a reference. I cannot test every artichoke from every part of the world so timing may vary slightly.

Artichokes Harvested During Early Spring And Early Summer:

    • Small Artichokes: 10 to 12 minutes
    • Medium Artichokes: 13-15 minutes

Artichokes Harvested During Late Summer And Early Fall:

    • Small Artichokes: 16-18 minutes
    • Large Artichokes: 22 minutes

  • Add broken in half spaghetti to inner pot
  • Pour in enough water to just cover the spaghetti
  • Add a pinch of salt

  • One of the things I love about the Instant Pot is that it will make a few noises as you use it as it does the things to ‘ask’ it to do.

    • Set the pressure to high pressure
    • Then set timer by using the up and down arrows

Let the Instant Pot build to the right pressure, cook the pasta and then it will beep to let you know it is done

Use these easy step-by-step instructions to cook perfectly al dente pasta in a 6-quart Instant Pot / pressure cooker.

Pasta has been my Instant Pot nemesis ever since I fell in love with the kitchen gadget of the moment. In the past few years Ive become pretty confident when cooking in the pressure cooker. It only took a few weeks to get over my fear of releasing the pressure valve.

These days, I use the pressure cooker a couple times a week to make everything from rice, to a big pot of Crispy Pork Carnitas, to 20-minute weeknight meals like Chickpea Curry with Rice. But pasta is tricky.

That is, until I learned the Instant Pot pasta formula. It involves a tiny bit of math, but the payoff is perfectly tender pasta every time. Heres how its done.
