True to its name, the Instant Pot Lux 6-in-1 offers six ways to handle food. The machine’s primary function is heating ingredients under pressure. Place whatever you’d like to cook inside the pot along with some liquid. Make sure the float valve on top of the lid is set to “sealing” . You then choose one of the pressure cooking programs on the control panel. There are eight in all. These include common foods such as Soup/Broth, Meat/Stew, Rice and Multigrain.

A float valve on the lid seals in or vents out steam.

There are a few modes to prep specialty items too. For instance, a Cake function pressure bakes batter. The Egg mode serves up soft-, medium- and hard-boiled eggs. And if you hanker for congee, the Porridge program can tackle that task. You use the Manual mode when you simply need to pressure-cook for a specific length of time.

Once I tweaked the Instant Pot’s egg mode to my liking, I was handsomely rewarded.

It’s too bad the Instant Pot doesn’t have a dedicated chili program. It’s a popular dish among the slow-cooker and multicooker crowd. This is only a minor beef since there are plenty of official and fan-created Instant Pot chili recipes out there.

The Instant Pot also has a steaming function, which is the preferred way to prepare delicate items like seafood, vegetables and dumplings. The appliances’ Slow Cook function allows it operate as a traditional slow cooker.

Instant Pot Lux Review

The Instant Pot LUX only replaces 6 appliances in your kitchen: a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, a sauté pot, a steamer, and warmer. As you probably noticed, it doesnt have the yogurt making function, as the DUO has.

So, if you don’t see yourself making yogurt, then the LUX 60 v3 is going to be just fine for your needs at home. It’s got the same power as the DUO 60, it’s the same size , and uses the same type of technology.

But there are a few other differences I want to mention. First, the LUX only has High-intensity settings , and you can only set the warmer to up to 10 hours. Second, the lid is not supported by the pot, so youll have to place it on the counter when you want to check on the food.

Otherwise, the front panel looks similar, and the same type of materials were used for the outer and inner pots. The 3 ply bottom is just as effective in evenly distributing heat, and the flavor and nutrients are trapped in a sealed environment.

Finally, while it doesnt have a yogurt function, the LUX 60 has a cake making program and an egg cooking program, which are not available on the DUO.

The Instant Pot Lux 6-in-1 V3 closely mimics the design of Instant Pot’s other multicookers. It’s squat, cylindrical and capped by a sturdy black-and-silver lid. The Lux lacks the thick “U”-shaped handle of its Duo and Ultra series models. Instead, its handle is recessed into the front of its lid. That translates to a lower overall profile.

Inside the Lux is a removable inner pot. The lining is stainless steel and has a maximum volume of six quarts. From browning and searing to soup-making, this is where all the cooking action happens. Crock-Pot’s multicooker has a pot insert with non-stick coatings. It’s easier to clean, but doesn’t get quite as hot as the Instant Pot’s stainless steel.

The Instant Pot Lux comes with a stainless steel inner cooking pot.

The outside of the Instant Pot is steel, too. Its surface is reflective, fingerprint resistant and crafted to match common kitchen decor. A panel on the front contains all of its many controls. There’s also a cooking time display that glows in bright red LEDs. Around back is the Instant Pot’s sole power source, a standard electrical cord and plug. The cord isn’t detachable like those on the Instant Pot Duo line or the Crock-Pot Express.

Included with the cooker are a few extra accessories, including a metal wire rack for steaming, a plastic rice spoon, a soup spoon and a small measuring cup.

Is Instant Pot Lux Easy To Use

As Ive mentioned a while ago, the Instant Pot IP Lux doesnt have a touch screen feature. Its quite old-school to be honest. However its not that difficult to use.

You just need to be careful when operating the pressure cook mode especially if youre new to it. The steam is too hot, it can burn your skin.

For safety purposes, I highly advice going over the included manual to familiarize with the proper way of using each function.

So yes, any multi-cooker has a certain level of difficulty, its not as straightforward as smoothie blenders.

Features: Packed With Presets

While the Lux Mini has half the capacity of the 6-quart Lux, it has the same six functions and most of the same preset programs , missing just the cake and multigrain options. Truthfully, we didnt miss them.

We found that the button we used most was the pressure cook button , particularly when we followed cookbook instructions. It makes sensecookbooks want to be inclusive and to have a long shelf life, so they avoid instructing users to press buttons that might not exist.

One of the great things about the Instant Pots popularity is the vast array of resources available.

One function we thought we might miss was the ability to choose low pressure, but we seldom ran into recipes that asked for the low-pressure setting, and we managed to adjust those with little trouble.

While the steam, rice, and egg buttons are handy to have, they may still require adjusting the time, so its wise to check instructions for properly cooking those foods rather than pressing a button and hoping for the best.

While this Instant Pot has a slow-cook feature, even the most enthusiastic Instant Pot fans admit that the results arent always perfect. Slow cookers heat all around the sides, but the Instant Pot just heats from the bottom, so its much better at slow cooking thin liquids than it is for slow cooking hearty stews. We found heavy stews or thick sauces worked better with a little stirring during slow cooking.

The closest competition for the 3-quart Instant Pot Lux Mini is likely the 6-quart Instant Pot Lux 60 V3 6-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker with the major difference being their size. The 6-quart version also includes the missing multigrain and cake buttons. The real decision here is how much countertop or storage space you have and how much food youll need to cook at once.
