Safety features, how to do an Instant Pot water test, whats the difference between a natural pressure release and a quick release, and what will happen step by step through the cooking process.
Ill be honest the first time I used my Instant Pot, I was overwhelmed and a bit scared. An Instant Pot can be intimidating for a new user. There are so many buttons and safety warnings.
However, I guarantee that once you get started, youll wonder what you ever did without your Instant Pot. I love mine so much that I now own two Instant Pots!
Im going to help you get started with all of the tips and tricks that I have learned through trial, error and research. This Instant Pot manual will tell you everything you need to know to use your Instant Pot for the first time.
Melt Chocolate With Ease
Youve never seen the point in investing in a double boiler for the one or two times a year you really need to dip a lot of fruit in chocolate. However, now that you have an Instant Pot, youve basically got everything you need to engineer your own fancy double boiler at home.
How to do it: Fill your Instant Pot with water, almost to the top. Turn on the machines Sauté function, and heat to Normal. Place a glass bowl that is slightly larger than the opening of the Instant Pot into the appliance, being sure to not overflow the water. Pour chocolate chips or chopped melting chocolate into the bowl. Wait five to 10 minutes for the water to heat through and begin to melt the chocolate. When the chocolate begins to melt, stir occasionally until smooth and uniform. Turn off the Instant Pot. Then turn it back on to Keep Warm. This will keep the water from cooling quickly, so you have smoother chocolate longer for lots of dipping.

What Kind Of Fabric Should I Use For This Easy Sew Kitchen Aid Cover
Considering that this is going to be in the kitchen and susceptible to possible spills and splash, Id definitely recommend something that can easily be thrown into the wash every now and then.
My favourite fabric to use for the kitchen is laminated cotton fabric. You may have seen me use this fabric when making reusable snack bags as well as the cover for my Instant Pot. This laminated cotton fabric by Impwear is a cotton fabric that is coated with an eco-friendly polyurethane. This fabric can easily be wiped off and is machine washable as well. This is the perfect fabric for the kitchen.
If you cant access some laminated cotton, you will find a large selection of quilting cotton available. Cotton flannels are also great I love that they are soft. For mine, I used flannel for the lining. The main thing is that you want something machine washable.
Be careful of fabrics that have an obvious direction a clear top and bottom. Fabrics with that type of print will not work for this project since the body part goes up and over. I tend to also avoid patterns with lines as it needs to be perfectly lined up in order to look right. I prefer overall patterns. Choose colours and prints that go with your kitchen.
Instant Pot Chicken Tortilla Soup
Greek yogurt or sour cream
Sauté the onion in your Instant Pot for 5 minutes.
Add the other soup ingredients, except for salt & pepper, to your pressure cooker and give it a stir.
Cancel sauté and ensure the lid is on “sealing”. Cook on high pressure for 8 minutes. It’ll take about 10-15 minutes for it to get up to pressure.
Once the countdown has finished, carefully do a quick pressure release .
Take the chicken out and shred it with two forks. Add it back into the soup, dish it up, and top each bowl as desired.
I have been following a low carb diet for a while so if you are watching your carbs you can omit the beans and corn and top off with a little extra chopped avocado for a perfect warm dinner.
Hope you all enjoyed this project, thanks for stopping by friends!

The Air Fryer Lid Cooks A Little Faster
The air fryer lid preheated about two minutes faster than the Vortex. Both produced crispy results, but we liked the Vortex slightly more because of the extra browning. The fact that this Instant Pot attachment produced similar results as the Instant Vortex makes a case for not adding a whole new appliance to your collection.

The Instant Vortex Has More Space
The Instant Vortex holds about about 2/3 of a bag of steak fries compared to the lid, which holds about 1/3 of the bag. The air fryer basket for the lid is even smaller than the inner pot of a standard six-quart Instant Pot, which should give you an idea of the limited space you’re working with. If you’re using your air fryer to cook for a family, the Instant Vortex is the way to go.
Were Continuing This Month With Enjoying New Soup Recipes As Well As New Takes On Our Free Instant Pot Cover Pattern
Pictured above is our free Instant Pot Cover pattern made by Nicole Daskiewwicz of Modern Handcraft. She used home-decor weight fabric, which goes perfectly with her choice of Sulky Poly Deco thread, and Sulky Fuse n Stitch for extra stability.
Do you keep your Instant Pot on your counter all year long? Do you store it away? Either way, youll love having a cover for it to keep it dust free as well as sitting pretty.
She loves the handle at the top of the cover, making it easy to pull off when the soup mood strikes. Her choice of fabric is really classic, but goes with her neutral kitchen palette nicely, while still making a statement. Nicole tested the pattern and thought it fit her Instant Pot perfectlyno alterations needed. This Instant Pot went from ho-hum to oh-yeah in a couple of hours.
The use of Fuse n Stitch is so smart. First, it provides a bit of firmness without being too stiff. It helps tame heavyweight fabrics, which can often shift under the presser foot . It helps the cover stand up tall on the counter, but youre still able to throw it in a drawer when the Instant Pot is in use. All good things, all good things.
Learn more about Nicoles process and browse her site for additional inspiration for your sewing endeavors.
Nicole also shares her recipe for Instant Pot Chicken Tortilla Soup, which looks so good! If youre in the mood for something with a little kick, yet full of fun extras like cheese, sour cream and avocado, this soups for you.

The Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid Wins Out For Design
While we did like that the Mealthy CrispLid is designed with a glass lid so you can see into the pot, the surface got too hot to touch, where the Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid gets warm, but not too hot to touch. The Mealthy CrispLid comes with an elevated trivet and basket that allows the food to sit higher in the pot, which is nice because you don’t have to reach into a hot basket to remove the food. That said, this problem is resolved in the deeper Instant Pot air fryer basket by using a set of tongs.
What If Your Instant Pot Doesn’t Have The Yogurt Setting
While most Instant Pot models feature a yogurt button right on the front panel, there are some models that don’t include it as a setting. “Instant Brands makes changes to machines all the time, adding features and taking them off,” says Weinstein. For example, some Duo models include the yogurt setting while others have not. Weinstein suggests inspecting the panel and specific features before buying a model if you’d like to try the yogurt function.
If your Instant Pot model doesn’t have the yogurt function, Weinstein doesn’t recommend using the appliance for yogurt-making. “The yogurt setting is designed for success and safety. Trying to duplicate what that feature does on a machine without that feature is asking for trouble,” says Weinstein.

Instant Pot Cover With Pioneer Woman Placemat
Keep your Instant Pot free of dust when not in use with a DIY Instant Pot cover. It looks complicated but is actually super easy when using a Pioneer Woman placemat and table runner.
How To Make An Instant Pot Cover
Begin by cutting off one end of table runner or placemat to make it straight.
Then cut the table runner to 48 long, or piece your placemats together to make one long piece 48 in length.
Now cut one of the long side of ruffles off so that you have a piece measuring 48 x 12. This will be the circumference of your Instant Pot cover.
Next, cut the remaining end of the table runner that still has three ruffled edges to 8 wide. The remaining piece shown on the right of the photo below can be discarded or used for another project.
All the cutting is done, so it is time to assemble. Find the center of both cut pieces, and mark them with a clip or straight pin.
Then place the small piece on top of the long one with right sides together. The straight edges of both pieces should be along the tops. Pin or clip the top of the smaller piece 2.5 from the bottom of the long piece.
Sew across the straight edge of the small piece.
Then fold the small piece up onto itself to form the pocket. Finger press it in place, and add a couple pins to stabilize.
Next top stitch around the pocket beginning at the top, right corner and continuing around to the top, left corner. Do not sew across the top of the pocket.
You should know have a long piece of table runner with three raw edges and a pocket.
Fold the table runner in half lengthwise with right sides together. Pin or clip it in place.
Sew along the edge with a 1/2 seam allowance.
Then open up the seam and iron or finger press it down.

How To Use An Instant Pot: What You Need To Know To Get Started With Instant Pot Cooking
There are a few basic things that you need to know when using an Instant Pot electric pressure cooker. Once you use yours a few times, these will be like second nature. Depending on which Instant Pot model you own, the buttons may be labeled slightly differently. Consult the manual that came with your Instant Pot.
Minimum Liquid Required: As a general rule, you want to use at least 1 cup of liquid in your Instant Pot every time you cook with it. The Instant Pot uses steam and pressure to cook food, and you need liquid to create the steam and pressure. Some recipes may call for more or less liquid. I recommend following recipes from a trusted source while you are learning to use your Instant Pot.
Fill Level: Inside the Instant Pot inner pot, you will see a 1/2 and a 2/3 line marked. Never fill the Instant Pot higher than the 2/3 line with food or liquid . If you are cooking food that will expand during the cook time such as rice, quinoa or beans, do not fill the Instant Pot higher than the 1/2 line.
Pressure Cook or Manual Button: Depending on which Instant Pot model you own, the Pressure Cook button is sometimes labeled Manual and sometimes Pressure Cook. This is the button that you will press to start a pressure cooking cycle. Its your basic pressure cooking button.
+/- Buttons: Use these buttons to adjust the cook time.
Keep Warm/Cancel Button: Use this button to end a cooking program or turn on/off the keep warm function.
Turn A Fruit Bounty Into Quick Preserves
If your strawberry patch was more generous than you had expected, you can use your Instant Pot to make quick jam or preserves. This procedure doesnt sterilize the fruit spread for long-term use, but you can store the preserves in jars and use up to a week later.
How to do it: Wash, clean, and slice three to four pounds of strawberries. Add the juice of one orange, and a few tablespoons of sugar. Set the Instant Pot to Manual mode, and cook four to five minutes. Let the pressure release naturally. If the fruit isnt falling apart when its stirred, you may need a minute or two more.
When you like the texture, remove the strawberry mix to a blender or food processor, and gently combine to make more smooth. Pour into prepared jam jars, and enjoy using on everything from biscuits and toast to ice cream and oatmeal.

What Is An Instant Pot
An Instant Pot is an electric pressure cooker. It is a multi-use appliance that can cook foods quickly at high pressure. Steam pressure builds up inside the pot, which creates a higher temperature environment that cooks foods faster. Unlike old fashioned pressure cookers, the Instant Pot has many safety features that make it safe and easy to use.
An Instant Pot is a pressure cooker, sauté pot, slow cooker, steamer, rice cooker, yogurt maker and warmer all in one. Ive been amazed at the versatility of my Instant Pot and the flavor and texture of the foods that I am able to cook in it. The high pressure inside the Instant Pot can tenderize even tough cuts of meat. It creates rich, complex flavors seriously, Ive never had better chili than Instant Pot chili!

Troubleshooting Instant Pot Yogurt
If you open the lid to your Instant Pot and you just find warm milk instead of yogurt, Weinstein says there are a couple of common reasons things went wrong.
Your starter might be bad, meaning the active cultures are no longer alive so they cannot turn the milk into yogurt. Or you got your temperatures wrong. If the milk is too hot when you add the starter, it will kill the bacteria if it’s too cold, the bacteria won’t be encouraged to grow.
