While rice pudding can cause you to gain weight if you eat too much of it too often, it is still a healthier dessert than many other desserts that are commonly eaten, such as cheesecake or ice cream.
Compared to these other high-fat and high-calorie desserts, eating a reasonable amount of rice pudding for dessert can help curb the temptation to binge on unhealthy foods.

Adding More Flavor To The Rice Pudding
I think this recipe is great and does not require any changes. However, below are some ideas on how you can make this pudding even more delicious.
Dried fruit is a popular addition to have in your rice pudding. Raisins, currants, cranberries, or even chopped apricots will work very nicely in this pudding. I prefer to add the dried fruit after the pudding is cooked.
Do not be afraid to add some liquor to the rice pudding for a bit of extra flavor. Alcohols such as rum, brandy, or even amaretto will work nicely. Feel free to be a little creative.
There are loads of essences that are great for adding a unique flavor to this pudding. I recommend swapping the vanilla essence for the type that you want to use. For example, rosewater, peppermint, or even caramel essence will work nicely.
To make this friendlier to lactose-intolerant people, you can use almond milk or something similar instead. You may also want to leave the butter out entirely. I have not tested it with almond milk so try at your own risk.
Tinkering with the spices you use in the pudding is a great way to change the pudding flavor. For example, instead of the cinnamon stick, you could use powdered cinnamon and maybe a little nutmeg.

Do You Rinse Rice For Rice Pudding
Not only should you rinse rice for rice pudding, but you should also rinse your rice for any meal you cook with it. There are a few reasons for this:
- Food hygiene: Imported rice goes through a lot of hands between the rice paddy and your plate, so you want to make sure that its cleaned so youre not eating any debris or dust along with your rice.
- Kickstart cooking: Rinsing rice begins the process of rehydrating the rice for cooking in water. This causes it to cook faster once you introduce it to the pot.
- Starch residue: As rice is transported in a bag, a starchy dust becomes coated on each rice grain. If the rice is cooked with this starch coat intact, the resulting rice will be slightly gooey. This is not the texture you want for rice pudding.
To rinse rice for rice pudding, simply run rice under cold running water and drain until the water coming off the rice runs clear. At this point, your rice should be ready to cook with.

Rice pudding is a healthy snack as long as you eat a reasonable portion of it and youre sure to balance it out with other healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Rice pudding offers the following nutritional benefits:

- Iron: Iron is a necessary mineral for the production of red blood cells in the circulatory system, and its also important for several other processes in the body. Lack of iron in the body can lead to a weakened state called
- Protein: Rice pudding may not have as much protein as meat or legumes, but the protein from the dairy in rice pudding is great for building muscle and other chemicals the body needs to function properly.

This Instant Pot Rice Pudding recipe is delicious on its own, but you can add toppings and mix-ins to make your own. I have been known to mix in raisins, fruit jam, cranberries, or nuts. I have also used many different toppings including bananas, granola, and graham crackers. Basically, your imagination is the only thing holding you back from your own custom rice pudding recipe.

Does Rice Pudding Freeze Well
You will find this does not freeze the best. Due to the dairy in the rice mixture, it will separate a bit once it thaws from the freezer. Rice as well will change texture once it thaws as well.
Now if you want to give it a try, feel free to test it out and see what you think. I would put it in the container while it is still warm so condensation builds so as you reheat it doesn’t dry out the rice as much.

What Is The Best Rice To Use For Rice Pudding
Well it all depends on what texture you want the rice pudding to be.
Arborio rice or sticky rice will have an ultra creamy texture with a bite to it.
If you are using Jasmine rice or long grain basmati rice then the pudding will be more soft textured like melt in mouth and not chewy or starchy like arborio.
I personally like arborio for this recipe and basmati for my Indian Kheer recipe.
The choice is yours . It will taste great either ways.

You can eat rice pudding hot or cold. It is all about your personal preference.
We tend to eat it warm when it is first cooked, and then toss it in the fridge for later. Then when we spoon it out once chilled, we just eat it cold.
Now, this is a thick rice pudding recipe, so you can add in extra milk or cream to help thin it out if you need to help thin it out once it has fully chilled.
