The Instant Vortex 6-quart Air Fryer impressed us with its great air frying results on brussel sprouts and, in particular, frozen French fries. We also loved that it could deliver these results speedily. While it doesnt have preset programs for air frying, it is exceptionally easy to use as the buttons are clear and the display isnt cluttered with icons.
However, if youre new to air frying and need the suggested settings and convenience that presets provide, you may be disappointed plus, theres no cooking guidelines in the manual so you have to visit Instant Brands website for that information.
This appliance nearly took the top spot in our air fryers test, but the Cosori Smart Wifi Air Fryer 5.8qt performed slightly better in terms of chicken wings and breaded chicken.

Love air-fried food, but not the noisy fans that accompany many air fryers? This model is well-rated for being ultra-quiet. In fact, our product tester said she could barely hear it when it was turned on. Like most air fryers, the cook can manually select the cooking time and temperature or use one of 11 cooking presets to prepare fries, steak, bacon, fish, shrimp, vegetables, chicken, potatoes, bread, cake, or thawing frozen snacks. The cooking basket holds 6-quarts, is nonstick, and is dishwasher safe.
The square-shaped design of this model gives you more room to fit food in the cooking basket compared to smaller fryers with rounded baskets. Our product tester noted the basket shape helps spread food out a bit more versus piling it on top of each other, which can lead to less crisp cooking results. In tests, this air fryer heated quickly, cooked evenly, and was extremely efficient. Our tester did warn that it does take a little practice playing around with settings to get the perfect amount of doneness.

What Does The Instant Vortex Do
It also has four separate preset buttons to making cooking specific items in your air fryer simple. Those presets are:

- Reheat
While these presets are nice to have, I have not been able to find evidence that they offer different cooking functionality other than just being common predetermined time and temperature combinations.
Since there is only one heating element in this Instant Vortex, and the fan speed doesnt change with the different presets, I dont believe there to be a true difference between the air fry functionality and the bake functionality.

Is The Instant Pot Vortex Plus Air Fryer Easy To Use
Yes, its very self explanatory and easy to use. Included is their very helpful starter guide and cooking time tables to walk you through the basic steps to cooking your first meal. The smart guides are also helpful to make it less intimidating when cooking. Dont let the size food you, as its quite large compared to other smaller air-fryer-only devices. But if you have the kitchen counter top space, youll find that youll be using the features more than you think. The Time and Temp buttons are separate, which is nice. Its very clear to see and implement time and temp separately. Some air fryer use the same buttons and you have to toggle back and forth between time and temp. Having them separate is helpful. The hot circulating air is very powerful too so youll get food crispy, quick.

If you want to try air frying, but don’t think you’ll do it often enough to justify investing in a more pricey model, the Chefman 3.7-Quart TurboFry Air Fryer is our budget pick. Its dome shape is compact to save counter space, but the basket easily fits enough food for several people. The black finish is sleek, and the matte model resists fingerprints so it’s easy to keep looking new.
There are both digital and analog versions of this air fryer. We tested the digital version both at home and in the Lab, and all the testers found the touch controls simple and intuitive to use. The temperature can be set from 200-400 degrees Fahrenheit and the timer up to 60 minutes, which is plenty of cooking range for most air-fried recipes. Our Lab testers found that this produced amazing French fries and crispy chicken tenders. The taste and texture outmatched several pricier models. Cleaning is also easier than others. The basket and several other parts can be put in the dishwasher, though the metal racks have to be carefully hand-washed.
The downsides here come when you’re looking for a versatile machine. It wasn’t able to bake cornbread and definitely couldn’t roast a chicken. If you’re interested in using an air fryer to dehydrate snacks, you might want a model that allows you to set the timer for longer.

We tested some air fryer pork ribs with bbq sauce and it was a winner! This is a powerful air fryer and cooked the ribs perfectly. It was large enough to cook two trays of ribs. We just needed to rotate the racks to get all the ribs cooked evenly. The results were awesome ribs with the perfect bite.

If youre cooking the same food on all 3 racks, youll have to rotate more often to get the food to cook evenly. Thats the case for all oven-style air fryers. Just be aware of that if youre looking to make your first purchase an oven-style model.

Before You Start Cooking
There is an initial test run to perfrom on the new unit. Make sure you remove all packaging and sticky fixes. Connect the power socket, remove the drawer, place the flat cooking tray inside the drawer then reinsert the tray. Set the programme to Air Fry for 20 minutes at 205 degrees Celsius or 400 degrees Ferenheit. Then, press Start. This cooking cycle is the same as normal cooking cycle with a preheat stage, remove and reinsert the drawer to continue then first and second cooking stages again with remove and reinsert drawer in between.
