Using An Instant Pot Steaming Basket

Using an Instant Pot steaming basket to steam vegetables is a great idea. A vegetable basket can be placed on a trivet above the water to enable steaming rather than boiling.

You can cook vegetables in the bottom of the pot if you dont have accessories yet, or you can use a trivet, or a stackable vegetable steamer designed specifically for the instant pot.

When buying a stacker or steam basket for your vegetables be sure to make sure its the right size for your specific Instant pot.

Enjoy your vegetables!

Steaming At Zero Minutes

Instant Pot Vegetable Steamer Basket Set Stainless Steel Folding Handle ...

I steam these vegetables for zero minutes and immediately release the pressure. Just the pressure-building phase is enough to cook them perfectly.

Heres my method.

  • Prep the vegetables .

  • Rinse the vegetables .

  • Set up the Instant Pot: use a steamer basket made for the Instant Pot or use a trivet with a conventional steamer basket on top of the trivet. The steamer should not sit on the bottom of the Instant Pot.

  • Pour 1-1.5 cups of water into the Instant Pot.

  • Pile the vegetables into the basket and lock the lid.

  • Turn the knob to sealing, press Steam, and lower the minutes to 0 .

  • When the cooking is done, usually in about 5 minutes, immediately move the knob to venting.

  • Once the steam is released and the tiny pressure valve drops , remove the lid and lift out the vegetables .

What do you need to get started?

  • Vegetables that take the same amount of time to cook in your pressure cooker or Ninja Foodi brand pot.
  • We are using fresh produce here, this is how to cook Instant Pot frozen vegetables here
  • Steamer basket to hold them out of the water below.
  • Seasonings you like
  • Butter is good on top when done
  • This basket is an Instant Pot accessory must you will use all of the time, I like this one with little feet at the bottom. Yes you can try to use a trivet but I would NOT recommend it. Reason is the smaller pieces will likely roll off and into the liquid below.

When they do theyll become complete mush so spend the five bucks or whatever and get one of these, you wont regret it.

A 7 bundt pan and a springform pan are the 3 things I highly recommend.

This is what you need to do in order for every batch to come out the best!

Instant Pot Duo Crisp And Air Fryer Review: Cooking Performance

During our tests, the Instant Pot Duo Crisp and Air Fryer performed well when pressure cooking meat stews, but steaming and air frying were a little disappointing.

I was particularly impressed with the Saute program, as it was able to brown onions and sear meat on a high heat for about five minutes. After throwing in all of my other ingredients, I pressed the Pressure Cook button twice to set the temperature to either Low, Normal or High, which is set at 239°F to 245°F. After 00:35 on a high temperature, it resulted in a tender and very tasty meat casserole.

On the other hand, steaming broccoli and green beans were not as successful. While the official website recommends a three-minute cooking time, it still takes seven minutes to preheat. As a result, the majority of beans were overcooked with a soft and soggy texture. Results seemed the same on a few tries, despite reducing the water content. You may need to manually experiment with timings to suit your tastes.

I was most excited about the air fryer function, and began with a batch of my trusted French fries. Once you place the air fryer lid on with a twist and lock, simply press the Air Fry button, which automatically sets it for 15 minutes at 204 degrees. It takes about two minutes to preheat, and you also have the option of manually changing the cooking time and temperature. After about seven minutes, the cooker prompts you to turn over foods to ensure an even crisp.

The Instant Pot Duo Plus, a.k.a Instapot Duo Plus, Instant Duo Plus, Instant Pot 9-in-1, or simply the IP Duo Plus, has gone several upgrades since it was released almost a decade ago.

In fact, this model is already the third iteration featuring a more refined look and better control panel. It has more cooking functions than its predecessor, and sous vide is one of those.

    Performance: Whats Not To Like

    Instant Pot Steamed Vegetables

I expected the Pressure Cook function to work here as well as on other Instant Pot models Ive used, and there were no surprises. I slow-cooked soup, pressure cooked oatmeal, and steamed vegetables. This has a Sous Vide mode, so I tested its ability to hold its temperature, and it stayed steady. However, the size of the pot limits the size of food that can be cooked using Sous Vide, so it may not be large enough for every sous vide recipe. The Sous Vide mode can also be used for making yogurt or for any recipes where a steady temperature is required.

Air frying is done in the stainless steel cooking pot with or without the fryer basket. The basket reduces the cooking space but offers better airflow. The broiler/dehydrator rack that fits in the basket allows a second layer of cooking. It has two large finger holes that make it simple to place in the basket, but once the rack is hot, gloved fingers didnt fit, so I used a pair of thin tongs.

I used the Bake mode for some cookies, with three on the bottom of the fryer basket and three on the broiling/dehydrating tray. The cookies on top cooked a bit more quickly, which was expected since the heat is from the top. I removed the rack and gave the bottom cookies another two minutes. The results werent perfect, but good enough. While there are better ways to bake cookies, its good to know this can manage a few treats.

Can You Air Fry Totinos Pizza

Using an air fryer to cook a frozen pizza is an excellent option if you need a fast snack. As a matter of fact, your pizza will be done in the Airfryer before your large oven has reached temperature. The device I used was the Power Air Fryer XL 5.3 Quart, and the pizza I made was a square frozen Totinos pizza from the frozen section. The entire cooking time on 400 degrees was 8 minutes.

    Seasoning For Steamed Vegetables

Some popular flavor combinations include a drizzle of olive oil, lemon juice, and freshly chopped herbs such as parsley, cilantro, or dill.

You can also add some grated cheese or a sprinkling of toasted nuts for extra texture and richness. No matter how you season your vegetables, the key is to let their natural flavors shine through.

  • John Marshallsays: These look good and will be trying. Would be great with a Japanese dressing I have seen. I must say though they are not steamed. You are cooking them in the water which means they are boiled and you are losing nutrients. If they were steamed you would put them on a trivet out of the water. Still look good though. I cook a lot of your stuff. Thank you. Johm M

What You Should Know Before Buying The Instant Pot Duo Crisp

The Start button is hard to see. When they redesigned the buttons on the Duo Crisp, they used red for the cancel text and green for the start button. In practice, however, the green is harder to read than the other buttons. Once youre used to it, its no big deal.

The display is smaller. The display has smaller buttons, a smaller font, and a slightly smaller display. Once you get used to it, however, this wont be a problem.

The Duo Crisp only comes with a Getting Started Guide. If you like to read manuals, the full Instant Pot Duo Crisp user manual is only available online.

The Air Fryer lid is NOT interchangable with other pressure cookers or other models of Instant Pot. This is NOT Instant Pots answer to the Mealthy CrispLid.

Sometimes you have to press the lid down on the lid sensor to make sure it is well connected with the base sensor.

You also need to have at least 5 inches of space all around the housing when you use the air fryer lid.

Count down change. Unlike other Instant Pot models, when there is 1 minute left, the timer counts down the remaining cooking time in seconds.

The air fryer lid beeps after 5 minutes, 20 minutes, and 60 minutes to remind you that cooking has completed.

The Delay Start and Keep Warm functions do not work with the air fryer lid.

    Instant Pot Cooking Tips

1.It’s perfectly fine to steam different veggies together. Just make sure they all have similar cooking times.

2.Test the vegetables as soon as the cooking process is over. If a fork easily pierces a vegetable, it’s done. If not, quickly put the lid back on the pot and let it sit for a minute or two. Don’t turn the pot back on: That will overcook the vegetables. Use the remaining heat inside the sealed pot to make the veggies tender.

3.The remaining liquid in the pot can be put into a jar and frozen to be used as vegetable stock later. Just add the cooking liquid from each batch of steamed veggies to the jar until there is enough to cook with.

For people who feel that they are too busy to cook, learning to steam vegetables in Instant Pot is a great way of saving time and eating healthier meals.
