I work from home, but you guys, I still forget to throw things in the oven, slow cooker, Foodi. Or I get so busy behind the computer that all of a sudden I check the time and its 4 pm and I have to get dinner ready fast.

So with all that in mind, Im sharing what has worked for me with both of these pressure cookers.

Ill be chatting about the pros, cons, and all the settings on both devices. What works best, what doesnt.

I purchased both of these at some point during the years, and this was not sponsored.

So lets dive into the Instant Pot vs Ninja Foodi debate, shall we?

Which One Should I Buy

While reviewing these two multicookers, it dawned on me just how amazing they are. Both make life in the kitchen easier and let you enjoy high-end foods with the receiving the dreaded check at the end. However, they do look and feel different, so heres my conclusion:

Choose Instant Pot If

  • You want one of the most popular pressure cookers on the market
  • You dont want to spend too much on fancy features
  • You want a yogurt maker
  • You like the idea of pre-set dishes
  • You dont have too much space in your kitchen
  • You want the slow cooking functionality

Choose Ninja Foodi If

  • The air frying feature is important to you
  • You like to cook crispy and healthy foods at home
  • You have space in the kitchen for a bigger device
  • The dehydration function sounds appealing
  • Your budget allows a more expensive purchase

So, if you want to enjoy crispy foods without worrying about the extra fat and its effects on your health, the Ninja Foodi pot is a wonderful choice. On the other hand, if youre more interested in cooking stews, rice, and making yogurt, the Instant Pot DUO series is more down your alley.

While they both have great features, if the price is an important decision factor, then the IP-DUO is the best multicooker for you.

How Are They Different From Stovetop Cooking

The biggest benefits of cooking with a multi-cooker are their speed and control. Whether you want to cook a whole 5 lb. chicken in 30 minutes or you want to slow cook chili while youre gone at work, both of these multi-cookers have your back. Decked out with loads of safety and cooking features, even beginners can execute advanced recipes.

Which Pressure Cooker Should You Buy

As much as this may be unhelpful to say, it depends on what you need your device to do. Yes, knowing what you want out of your pressure cooker matters even far more than your price range!

To sum up this post, you may want to buy a Ninja Foodi if

  • You cook a lot of meat
  • You plan on using it as an air fryer frequently
  • You have more space in your kitchen
  • You dont mind spending a bit more

On the other hand, you may want to buy an Instant Pot if

  • You dont have a lot of space
  • You want more versatility out of your device
  • You want a few models to choose from
  • You need to look at cheaper pressure cookers

What Do Air Fryers Do

Ninja Foodi vs Instant Pot, which one is the best?

Well, that depends on what type youre talking about. There are two basic types: standalone units and oven settings.

A countertop air fryer is equipped with a removable cooking basket or tray that you place your food into before cooking. Then, you tap a few buttonsmany contain several preset programming optionsand let the principles of convection cooking work their magic as hot air circulates inside around the food. The result is a delectably crispy sweet potato fry, cauliflower bite, or what have you, without the excess calories and fat from frying food in oil the traditional way. Since theyre fairly compact, you can leave these gadgets out if youre a heavy-duty user, or store it in a cabinet when not in use if youll only be using it a few times a month.

An air fryer oven, also known as an air frying oven, has this hot air circulation built in among all its other features, so you dont need a separate appliance to get an air-fried delight on the table. They also have the advantage of more space, so you can cook in larger batches. To use, you typically put your food on a specially designed, perforated tray or basket, turn the air fry mode on, and sit back and relax while the oven convection cooks it to perfection.

You might be thinking: Hey, dont microwaves have convection too? And youre right. Be sure not to miss our number five pick below.

Ninja Foodi Vs Instant Pot: Cleaning

You can place the cooking pots from Ninja Foodi machines and Instant Pots in the dishwasher for easy cleaning. Ninja Foodi models have non-stick cooking pots so you shouldnt end up with dried-on bits of food that are hard to get rid of, whereas Instant Pots have stainless steel pots.

As Ninja Foodi machines feature a cooking pot with a non-stick coating, youll have to avoid using any metal utensils with it in case you scratch off this coating.

    Pressure Cooker Air Fryer Combo

I bought the Instant Pot months after it came on the market, when there were NO recipes out there. People were still afraid to use it. SO, I started figuring it out and used it every day for months. Now I have 101+ Instant Pot recipes to show for it.

    • Even though it says Instant Pot you can use all of these in the Ninja Foodi using the pressure cooker function.
    • AND you can use all of our easy air fryer recipes for it as well, that means two for the price of one.

Verdict: Which Did I End Up Choosing

So after using the Ninja Foodi to cook dinner in for a week, I ended up PACKING IT UP AND RETURNING IT. Dont worry, I kept all the packaging and washed it up real good.

I just couldnt get past the size of the beast and I didnt see myself actually using the air fryer THAT often.

And the fact I would have to be lugging out the machine just to use the pressure cooker wasnt appealing.

Additionally, I felt like the air fryer was more like a broiler than anything else.

Some people said if I had a convection oven, I didnt need an air fryer slightly disagree.

While the air fryer does push around hot air like a convection oven, it does cook differently. The final product is crisper than a convection but that might be because the heating element is literally on top of your food hence why I think its more like a broiler.

So yep, Ill be keeping my Instant Pot!

Now that Ive actually used an air fryer, I dont think Ill be buying one. Im happy with my pressure cooker and slow cooker!

Ninja Foodi Vs Instant Pot: Design

NINJA FOODI VS INSTANT POT – PERFECT FLUFFY RICE (almost) after many attempts

One major thing to notice about Ninja Foodis design is how big its multi-cookers are. For example, the 6.5-quart Ninja Foodi is 17 inches wide, 14 inches deep and 13 inches long. Plus it weighs 25lbs. That’s hefty.

Instant Pots are more compact in their design. They’re also available in smaller quart sizes compared to Ninja Foodi cookers. This means that even if you’re a one-person household, you don’t have to miss out on all the brilliant features these multi-cookers have to offer.

Unlike Instant Pot’s lid design, you can’t fully take Ninja Foodi’s Air Crisp lid off. This can prove tricky when it comes to cleaning Ninja Foodi’s exterior. When we tried the Foodi in our own kitchen, we found that it was hard to fully lift the lid on some kitchen counters without hitting the underside of the cabinets. This limited the spaces where we were able to test the machine, but the one-lid design does mean that you’ll never need to find the storage space for an extra lid in your kitchen.

    Winner: Ninja Foodi

We loved the interactive control panel on the Ninja Foodi, which has a slide lid to pivot between air frying, steam crisp, and pressure cooking. It’s a more forward-thinking model than the Instant Pot, but we did think the hinged lid will be a significant setback for some kitchens.

Instant Pot Vs Air Fryer: What To Cook

Instant pots can cook the most common foods. Note that the instant pot is preferred for stews and food requiring boiling. But it has different cooking functionalities that can enable it to function as a slow cooker, sauté pan, and more. It can cook beef, chicken, bread, soups, vegetables, eggs, rice, noodles, cakes, multigrain, porridge, and even prepare yogurt.

The air fryer has a long list of foods you can cook in it. The appliance can bake, air fry, roast, grill, dehydrate and reheat. It is preferred for making French fries, baked potatoes, omelets, hard-boiled eggs, egg rolls, cakes, banana bread, fried chicken, turkey, muffins, air-fried fish, air-fried bacon, and much more.

If you want stew, soups, boiled rice, and multigrain meals, consider an instant pot. However, if you like air-fried, crispy meals on the outside and juicy on the inside, an air fryer is the better option.

    Making Ninja Foodi Roast Chicken

The first thing I cooked in my Foodi was a roast chicken. I used the recipe that was in the recipe book that is included with the Foodi. The recipe called for a 4 to 5 pound chicken. The smallest chicken my store had was 5.5 lbs. It was a little bit too tall for the Foodi, but it fit in the crisping basket fine.

The chicken was a little too close to the top and there were lines on the chicken leg where it touched the crisping lid.

The recipe called for cooking it in the Cook and Crisp Basket. Its great that the basket is included with the Foodi. The holes in the bottom of the basket make it great for pressure steaming food, as well as crisping up food using the crisping lid. My only complaint about the basket is that the legs have lots of crevices that are difficult to clean.

The Herb-Roasted Chicken recipe has you add lemon juice, hot water, honey, peppercorns, kosher salt, fresh thyme, and garlic to the pressure cooking pot. I found the flavorful ingredients in the bottom of the pot didnt really infuse the chicken with flavor. I added some fresh rosemary to the recipe and my husband said he could taste the rosemary a little, but I couldnt really taste the lemon, thyme or honey.

If I made the recipe again, I would probably make a compound butter and put it under the skin rather than rely on the pressure cooking liquid to flavor the chicken.

My chicken wasnt as tender as Id like, so I probably should have increased the pressure cook time more than 2 extra minutes.
