In part because of the absence of direct heat from the pan, anything cooked in a raised pot utilizing the pot in pot method takes a little longer to cook than items cooked in the main insert. This arrangement takes two minutes longer to cook everything since I use the same 2-inch metal rack and a 7-cup circular dish that I use in the main insert. In the main pot, for example, basmati rice boils in four minutes however, it takes six minutes to cook raised in a second pot using the pot-in-pot method.

IN A POT-IN-POT, RICE IS COOKING.

My preferred ingredient for using the pot-in-pot method is rice, which you can get here. Especially good for saucy dishes that cook nicely in the main insert of the Instant Pot. In comparison to rice cooked in the main Instant Pot insert, rice cooked in the elevated pot-in-pot method provides much more consistent results.

  • Medium grain white rice should be cooked for 4-5 minutes.
  • Long grain white rice should be cooked for 6 minutes.
  • The cooking time for brown rice is 22 minutes.

After cooking, let ten minutes for natural pressure release before releasing any residual pressure that may have built up. Carefully remove the rice cooker from the heat and fluff it with a fork. If the rice isnt quite tender, cover it and set it aside for a few minutes to soften it more.

Instant Pot Is Merging With Corelle Brands

This the same one that bought pyrex, cut costs, and started selling shitty and easily broken pyrex stuff? I.e new vs old pyrex

Corelle was a subsidiary of Corning, so I’m not sure if they bought or were given the license to produce it.

Either way, Corelle makes “pyrex”, a type of soda-lime glass.

International Cookware owns the license to produce “PYREX”, a borosilicate glass, in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

The original Corning Pyrex was a borosilicate glass, so if you want good quality, get PYREX, not pyrex.

But yeah, Corelle is the one who made a shittier version.

Change The Size Of The Meat

Is Pyrex Safe in Instant Pot

Large cuts of meat require much longer in the pressure cooker than that same cut of meat diced into bite-size pieces. So if you want to cook a side with a longer cook time, consider changing up the size of the meat. For instance, the thinly sliced beef strips in Beef and Broccoli only take 12 minutes at high pressure, so theyre too long for white rice and too short for brown rice. However, beef cut into 2- or 3-inch cubes would need about 20 minutes at high pressure, making them a good match for brown rice, which has a 22-minute cook time and a 20-minute natural pressure release.

Safe To Use In Instant Pot

If youre still feeling uneasy about how safe it is to use Pyrex in your Instant Pot, here is a list of other acceptable accessories you can use in your Instant Pot.

  • Glass canning jars are designed for pressure canning. Unless you have the Instant Pot Max model, you wont be using these jars to can in your Instant Pot. Many Instant Pot owners use canning jars to pressure cook successfully. They are glass, so they can break but they are created to withstand the pressure during canning. Check out the amazingly delicious Small Batch Instant Pot Lemon Curd by Julia at Imagelicious for her use of glass for pot-in-pot pressure cooking.
  • Ceramic ramekins are used by many, although technically it can still break if there are any cracks/fissures.
  • Quick Cooker Ceramic Pot by The Pampered Chef is made specifically for use with pressure cooking! Plus it comes with a silicone lid and a wire cradle to lift it out easily too!
  • Silicone is safe to use inside the Instant Pot.
  • Stainless steel is always a safe choice. You can find several stainless accessories to use here.
  • Non-stick baking pans are also safe for pressure cooking. However, due to risks of chemicals leaching into foods and possibility of the coating flaking off into food, we avoid using these products now.
  • Aluminum pans are also popular to use in the pressure cooker. Our family is stepping away from using aluminum products due to research about its correlation to Alzheimers disease.

Choose Similar Ingredients To Another Pot

One of the easiest ways to adjust a pot-in-pot recipe is to choose a recipe that uses similar ingredients and base your cook time off of that. For example, if you want to make a Snickers Cheesecake, I recommend starting with my Peanut Butter Cup Cheesecake recipe and adapting it to your candy of choice.

How Do You Know If Your Bowl Is Safe For Use With A Pressure Cooker

Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats: CREAMY, TENDER & FAST!

There are a few ways that you will know if your bowl is safe for pressure cooker use.

  • The first way is to read the instruction manual that came with your pressure cooker. If it does not recommend using any glass bowl, you will want to avoid doing so.
  • Please look for any markings on your bowl that indicate whether it is TG or annealed glass.
  • Check for any markings that indicate whether or not the bowl is oven-safe.
  • Check the side of your pressure cooker for any words that indicate whether or not it is safe to use with tempered and toughened glasses. If you doubt, contact the manufacturer of your pot/glass bowl combo before using them together for fear of breakage from heat expansion.
  • Check the bowl and ensure that there are no cracks or chips on it. Even if TG is used, it stands a far great chance of breaking if the bowl is chipped or cracked.

Top 10 Instant Pot Accessories You Need

Updated | By Tracey Black | Affiliate disclosure

The more I use my Instant Pot, the more I realize just how versatile this kitchen appliance is! Once you start using your Instant Pot, youll realize theres a lot of accessories youll need to make pressure cooking even easier. Ive rounded up my top 10+ Instant Pot accessories you need.

Are you hooked on your new Instant Pot?

Ive had mine for nearly a year now, and its hands-down my favorite kitchen appliance. We used it 2-3 times a week. Ive got a bunch of delicious, gluten-free Instant Pot recipes you can easily make tonight.

And if youre looking for an Instant Pot, heres the one that I got. What I love about the Instant Pot is that its a 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Cooker including a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, saute/browning, yogurt maker, steamer and warmer. Plus, it has a stainless steel cooking pot and steam rack LOVE that! I have literally gotten rid of my old slow cooker and yogurt maker because I can do it all with the Instant Pot.

How Do You Use Pot In Pot Method

To use pot-in-pot in the Instant Pot you will need to have a wire rack, or trivet, to raise the pot above the bottom of the inner pot and oven-safe dishes. You will also need to keep in mind you may need to slightly adjust the cooking time based on the dish you are using. I have found that many dishes take 3-5 minutes LONGER when using the pot-in-pot method, especially when using glass or silicone pots as they do not conduct heat as well.

    • Add water to the bottom of the inner pot. You will need 1 cup of water for a 6 quart Instant Pot and 1.5 cups of water for an 8 quart Instant Pot. Remember, the water should NOT be warm. It needs to be cold water from the tap.
    • Place a metal trivet or steamer rack in the inner pot over the water.
    • Put the food you are trying to cook in an oven-proof container–stainless steel dishes work best inside the instant pot. This container does NOT require liquid.
    • Place the container on the steam rack and close the Instant Pot lid.
    • Cook and release pressure as recipe directs, adding 3-5 minutes to the cooking time.

What Can I Use For Pot In Pot Instant Pot

Many readers often ask us what bowls are safe to use in Instant Pot. And which containers are the best?

There are lots of options on what you can use for the pot in pot method. Including containers made of stainless steel, glass, ceramic, silicone, aluminum, bamboo, or copper.

All pots are not created equal. Different containers transfer heat differently depending on factors like material, size, and thickness. Thus, the specific container you use will affect the optimal cooking time.

Thats why its important to adjust the cooking time according to your container. Or else you may end up overcooking or undercooking food.

What Pot Is Best To Use In The Instant Pot

I have found that stainless steel food-grade containers are the best to use. They transfer heat to the food fairly well and are convenient to use plus usually dishwasher safe.

When you put a dish inside the Instant Pot, make sure that it is at room temperature first. Removing a dish straight from the refrigerator and placing it in the Instant Pot produces a higher chance of it shattering.

3 QT Instant Pot Stainless Steel Inner Pot: The best container for Pot in Pot in the 6 Quart or 8 Quart Instant Pot.

    • Overall, it has one of the fastest heat transfer rates.
    • Due to its thickness, it has the best overall heat-retaining rate.
    • Because of its taller height, itll prevent foamy food from spilling out of the container.

Is Pyrex Safe In An Instant Pot

Numerous bloggers swear by something called the “pot-in-pot” cooking method, whereby you place ingredients into some sort of secondary dish rather than directly into the Instant Pot itself. This allows you to keep the Instant Pot clean, so you don’t have to wash it out between steps and slow down the overall cooking process, and can also help you cook multiple things at once.

Pyrex, which is owned by the same parent company as Instant Pot, is a suggestion that pops up again and again. While anything that’s oven-safe should be okay to use in the Instant Pot, we personally have some reservations about cooking in glass inside your Instant Pot. If it shatters, which has been known to happen in the past, then you’re stuck with quite a mess and will have to ditch that meal you just prepared out of fear of consuming said glass. So while yes, you totally can use Pyrex in the Instant Pot, we’d suggest using a metal baking dish or round cake pan instead. This will allow you to keep ingredients separate, and the shatter risk drops down to zero.

    What Exactly Is Pot

Instant Pot Accessories: You *Really* Only Need These 5…

You may have heard of the term pot-in-pot cooking as it is a term regularly used in many Instant Pot Recipes.

Pot-in-Pot refers to cooking two different dishes simultaneously by placing one of them on a trivet or steamer basket inside another pot filled with water.

A pressure cooker is perfect for this technique because it can cook food faster and evenly than other cooking methods such as boiling, oven baking, grilling, etc.

When you are cooking a dish, it can be hard to know what type of cooking method you should use, pot-in-pot or right inside the inner pot. I have found the following dishes to be best suited to PIP cooking in the Instant Pot.

    • Recipes that dont need liquid. Like meatloaf and Lasagna.
    • Recipes that do not use a full 1 or 1.5 cups of thin liquid will not work with an electric pressure cooker because you need that amount of liquid to reach the required level of pressure for these appliances.
    • A recipe with a thick sauce or gravy
    • Water bath or bain-marie recipes like cheesecake or creme brulee.
    • To steam vegetables or delicate foods.
    • To cook two dishes simultaneously.
    • A recipe containing dairy.
    • To reheat a meal.

What Containers Are Safe To Use With A Pressure Cooker

    • Save

Many people ask, Can I use plastic in my pressure cooker? Because most storage containers are made of plastic, this may seem like the easiest thing to use.

After all, many people use them in the microwave. To help you answer this question, we have compiled a list of safe materials and materials that are not safe to use when preparing food in your pressure cooker.

Remember that pressure cookers work by generating large amounts of heat with steam under pressure. Basically, its a sealed container that, when the contents inside are heated and produce steam, traps the steam inside.

Because the steam cannot escape, it builds up pressure, thereby pushing the boiling point of the water inside to beyond 212°F. Generally, this higher temperature shortens the cooking time and, because of a lack of evaporation, extracts flavor very well.

So, when using a pressure cooker, we need to bear in mind that whatever container is in there needs to withstand these high temperatures.

After all, you dont want to end up melting something in your pressure cooker or even starting a fire. Instead, it is better to be safe and informed to know what to do and what you can use.

    Instant Pot Silicone Lid

Got leftovers in your Instant Pot? You can put this silicone, air-tight lid on the inner steel pot and store those leftovers in the refrigerator. No extra containers and no mess transferring meals. This is perfect when you have a meal to take to a party or potluck too. Plus, this lid is dishwasher safe.

    Pasta Made In The Pot

Pasta is a fantastic ingredient for the pot-in-pot method. Adding a few inches of water to the pan will be enough to allow for expansion while the food is being cooked. Once you have finished cooking, be sure to drain it well. Calculate the cooking time for the spaghetti according to the instructions in this Instant Pot Pasta Cooking Guide, but allow an additional two minutes to account for the higher setting.
