How To Cut A Whole Roasted Chicken
First of all, make sure you have the right tools for the job – it will make everything much easier! You’ll need a carving fork , a carving knife or sharp chef’s knife, and a cutting board.
- Before you start: Move the chicken to the cutting board and let it sit upside down for 15 minutes. Sitting the chicken allows the juices to redistribute through the meat. Be careful when moving the chicken, as some juices may escape!
- Removing the drumstick and thigh: Press your carving fork into the breastbone to hold the chicken in place. Then, gently slice the skin between the leg and the body so you can see the hip joint, and cut through it so you can remove the drumstick and thigh.
- Removing the breast meat: Ensure that you position your carving fork between the two breasts. Next, make a long, horizontal cut from the wing to the leg you just removed. Now, make a deep cut along the breast bone, and cut from here to the horizontal cut you just made. Repeat for each breast so you can remove them.
- Slice the breast meat: Slice each breast into whatever size slices best suit your dinner guests!
- Remove the wings: Finally, pull the wing away from the body so you can see the joint and slice through it. Remove the wing.

How To Make A Whole Chicken In Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid
- First, in a small bowl, combine old bay seasoning with thyme. Set aside.
- Next, pat dry the chicken with paper towels. Rub the chicken with olive oil season with old bay seasoning mixture all over the chicken, including under the breast’s skin and cavity. Loosely tie the legs together with kitchen twine if you want.
- Then, place the instant pot trivet inside the inner pot place the chicken breast side down on the rack. Place the air fryer lid on top, set the temperature to air fry to 385ºF for 60 minutes. Flip the chicken halfway through.
- Finally, using kitchen tongs, remove the chicken from the inner pot. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving. Serve and Enjoy!

Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken Recipe
I started out with a chicken that was a bit under 4 pounds. I tied it up well and inserted the Omni rotisserie spit. Then I mixed up a rub. You can use whatever rub you like. In my case I grabbed some favorite spices and just mixed them together. I used a fair amount of Thyme since that always goes well with chicken.
Spray the chicken with a bit of oil and pat on the rub. It is then ready to into the air fryer or your rotisserie oven.
I air fried my chicken at 380 for a bit over an hour and ten minutes. You can use either the roast or air fry setting. I turned the heat down to 360 for the last ten minutes or so to lessen the browning a bit. Your chicken is done when it reaches 165 degrees internal temperature. Generally though a 4 pound chicken will take around an hour give or take ten minutes or so.
Let the chicken rest for about 10 minutes after removing it from the oven. It is OK to take it out at about 160 temperature if resting it because it will keep cooking as it rests. Simply put a foil tent over it. Resting the chicken helps it to retain its juices.
