Best Buy has recalled 635,000 Insignia brand air fryers after users reported the units overheating and catching on fire, burning or melting. Two of those reports included injuries.
According to an announcement with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Best Buy has received 68 reports in the United States and 36 from Canada about the air fryers, including seven reports of minor property damage and two reports of injuries, including one being a child.
The recall details are:
- Insignia Digital Air Fryers, Insignia Analog Air Fryers and Insignia Digital Air Fryer Ovens, model numbers NS-AF32DBK9, NS-AF32MBK9, NS-AF50MBK9, NS-AF53DSS0, NS-AF53MSS0, NS-AF55DBK9, NS-AFO6DBK1 and NS-AFO6DSS1 sold by Best Buy. The air fryers range in capacity from 3.4 to 10 quarts.
They were sold in Best Buy stores and online from November 2018 to February 2022 for between $30 and $150.
People who bought the air fryers can return them to Best Buy for a refund in the form of a Best Buy credit of at least $50 – more if the receipt is a higher amount, however, a receipt is not needed for the $50 credit. Best Buy will provide pre-paid shipping boxes and labels and instructions on how to return the appliances.
