The Air Fryer Lid Cooks A Little Faster
The air fryer lid preheated about two minutes faster than the Vortex. Both produced crispy results, but we liked the Vortex slightly more because of the extra browning. The fact that this Instant Pot attachment produced similar results as the Instant Vortex makes a case for not adding a whole new appliance to your collection.

For fries we found the Vortex more than able to produce crisp, fluffy potato treats using both frozen and fresh options. The benefit with an air fryer is that itll need very little oil to get the job done, and with a few tries we had the Vortex producing plates of fries that were nigh on perfect.
Better still, the great thing about the Vortex is that with practice you can become quite good at tweaking dishes to suit your taste and cooking style. Air fryers, just like conventional ovens, can tend to over or under cook food if youre not up to speed with how your model works. We found that to be the case with the Vortex, which seems less versatile when youre using the Bake setting. Keep an eye on it, however, and you can hone this so food is just about right.
Capacity is excellent, with the Vortex serving up substantial meals that served four to five people more than once. However, its pretty nifty if you just want to reheat leftovers for one the next day too. Similarly, the Vortex excels at quickly heating things like spring rolls, producing nice and crispy batter on the outside while maintaining the moistness inside. And, as youd hope, any oil runs off into a detachable tray in the bottom of the pan, leaving your fried food tasting better as a result.

The Instant Vortex 6-quart Air Fryer impressed us with its great air frying results on brussel sprouts and, in particular, frozen French fries. We also loved that it could deliver these results speedily. While it doesnt have preset programs for air frying, it is exceptionally easy to use as the buttons are clear and the display isnt cluttered with icons.
However, if youre new to air frying and need the suggested settings and convenience that presets provide, you may be disappointed plus, theres no cooking guidelines in the manual so you have to visit Instant Brands website for that information.
This appliance nearly took the top spot in our air fryers test, but the Cosori Smart Wifi Air Fryer 5.8qt performed slightly better in terms of chicken wings and breaded chicken.

Instant Pot Duo Crisp And Air Fryer Review: Cooking Performance
During our tests, the Instant Pot Duo Crisp and Air Fryer performed well when pressure cooking meat stews, but steaming and air frying were a little disappointing.
I was particularly impressed with the Saute program, as it was able to brown onions and sear meat on a high heat for about five minutes. After throwing in all of my other ingredients, I pressed the Pressure Cook button twice to set the temperature to either Low, Normal or High, which is set at 239°F to 245°F. After 00:35 on a high temperature, it resulted in a tender and very tasty meat casserole.
On the other hand, steaming broccoli and green beans were not as successful. While the official website recommends a three-minute cooking time, it still takes seven minutes to preheat. As a result, the majority of beans were overcooked with a soft and soggy texture. Results seemed the same on a few tries, despite reducing the water content. You may need to manually experiment with timings to suit your tastes.
I was most excited about the air fryer function, and began with a batch of my trusted French fries. Once you place the air fryer lid on with a twist and lock, simply press the Air Fry button, which automatically sets it for 15 minutes at 204 degrees. It takes about two minutes to preheat, and you also have the option of manually changing the cooking time and temperature. After about seven minutes, the cooker prompts you to turn over foods to ensure an even crisp.
Air Fried Pork Ribs Test In The Vortex Plus
We tested some air fryer pork ribs with bbq sauce and it was a winner! This is a powerful air fryer and cooked the ribs perfectly. It was large enough to cook two trays of ribs. We just needed to rotate the racks to get all the ribs cooked evenly. The results were awesome ribs with the perfect bite.

If youre cooking the same food on all 3 racks, youll have to rotate more often to get the food to cook evenly. Thats the case for all oven-style air fryers.
