In general, they work okay, and they might be worth considering if youre committed to baking or browning foods directly in your Instant Pot. But they can also be larger and more expensive than our main pressure cooker picks, and they dont work as well as appliances dedicated to convection cooking.

If you live in an apartment or have a cramped kitchen, it may be worth it to invest in an Instant Pot and say goodbye to other space-consuming gadgets.

Design: A Bit Too Hot To Handle

The Instant Pot Lux is quite bulky at 13.19 x 12.21 x 12.48 inches and 11 pounds. Before you make your purchase, youll need to make sure you have sufficient countertop or storage space.

Despite its size, the Instant Pot Luxs simple interface and stainless steel exterior look neat and streamlined. This is a major plus if you need to keep it on your countertopwhich you likely will, if you end up using it as often as we have.

As you would expect, the exterior of the Instant Pot heats up when its active. Though its side handles stay cool to the touch, theyre a little too small to get a good grip on. We wouldnt recommend transporting your Instant Pot when its full of hot food.

Ease Of Use And Performance

Both devices are very user-friendly and they both perform well. Small differences, like the handle design and steam release valve, make the Duo slightly easier to use.

In spite of the different cooking programs, we have yet to find anything we can cook in the Duo that we cant cook in the Lux . Once you know what youre doing, you can create virtually any Instant Pot recipe in either the Lux or the Duo as long as you have a large enough model for that specific recipe.

The Ultra lid is different compared to the Lux as the Ultra has a lid rest and grab handle. The basic model has a different way of opening the Instant pot and you need to carefully place the lid on your counter when youre done cooking.

The auto-seal feature of the Ultra is also nice to help prevent you from forgetting to take that step. On the other hand, the manual steam release on the Lux is easier to tap for a control quick release. The Ultra has a button you press down to release pressure when its done cooking.

Instant Pot Lux Mini Vs Instant Pot Lux 60 V3

The closest competition for the 3-quart Instant Pot Lux Mini is likely the 6-quart Instant Pot Lux 60 V3 6-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker with the major difference being their size. The 6-quart version also includes the missing multigrain and cake buttons. The real decision here is how much countertop or storage space you have and how much food youll need to cook at once.

The Lux Has One Pressure Cooking Level

Aside different combinations of smart programs and a few visual differences, one of the main differences between these two models is the Lux only has a high pressure cooking level. The Ultra has both high and low pressure cooking options.

Most recipes wont call for cooking at low pressure, but low can be used for cooking rice and certain types of fish. Its nice to have the flexibility of pressure levels in case you do find a recipe that uses something other than high pressure.

Currently Lux is the only Instant Pot without a low pressure cooking option.

Instant Pot Duo Plus With Whisper

The Instant Pot Duo gets a major upgrade in this latest iteration. Not only do you get a sleek, stainless steel finish, you get 25 smart programs. One significant difference between this version and the original is that the Instant Pot Duo Plus with Whisper Quiet Steam Release trades sous vide cooking capability for a cake making feature.

Now let’s get into the obvious difference between this model and the regular Duo Plus: the steam release. Instant Pot’s latest technology and design allow the machine to diffuse steam more quietly than ever. It also gives you the option to use a remote button so you can open the cooking pot at a distance for extra safety. But is it worth buying this one over the original Duo Plus?
