How To Cooks Eggs In The Instant Pot

I based my eggs on the popular 5-5-5 method for hard-cooked eggs in the Instant Pot. The idea is to put your eggs into a steamer basket and seal them inside your pressure cooker along with a cup or so of water. It takes about five minutes for the cooker to come up to high pressure, five minutes to cook the eggs, and then five minutes of natural pressure release before removing the eggs from the cookerhence the 5-5-5 method.

I found that this basic formula worked just fine, though it typically takes my pressure cooker closer to 10 minutes before fully pressurizing.

I also decided that I like the texture of 4-minute eggs better than 5-minute eggs. At four minutes, the whites are firm but soft and the yolk is cooked through but still creamy at five minutes, I felt like the whites started to become rubbery and the yolk was a little chalky. Give it a try both ways and see which you prefer.

Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

Today we are using the Instant Pot to make hard-boiled eggs. Thanks to the 5-5-5 method, they come out perfectly cooked and ready to use in all your favorite hard-boiled egg recipes.

But before we start, I want to mention some very important tips that make the difference between easy-to-peel hard-boiled eggs and ones where you take off half the egg white.

Use Week Old EggsThe best eggs for boiling are at least a week to ten days old. I recommend purchasing an extra carton of eggs each week, use one for omelets and scrambled eggs, and reserve the while extra carton for hard-boiled eggs the next week.

Ice BathDont skip this step. The ice-water will shock the membrane in between the egg-white and the eggshell, loosening the shell and allowing you to peel it off in nearly one piece.

Reheating Scrambled Eggs For Crowd Or Groups

If youre heating up scrambled eggs for a family reunion or a large crowd, youll need to use higher-volume methods. The amount of heat is key here: Warming cold scrambled eggs in a crock-pot is not a good idea, because they are slow to heat and that leaves eggs in the food safety danger zone for too long. A slow cooker or crock pot is fine for keeping them warm once theyre fully reheated.

Here the oven is definitely your friend, especially for large groups. Step 1 set the heat to 300F. Now if you have scrambled eggs for 100 people divide your batch into multiple baking dishes. Adding some butter, heavy cream or even creme fraiche will help keep the eggs moist. Add a little shredded cheese at the end and you will have a nice wet and tasty solution to reheated safe eggs. Step 2 is to cover with foil and heat for 20 to 40 minutes. Every 5-6 minutes stirs. You know your eggs are ready when you have probed them with a temperature checker and the temperature is 165F. Do testing several places.

How To Make Scrambled Eggs

Once youve gathered your ingredients, its time to make some scrambled eggs!

  • First, crack the eggs into a medium mixing bowl and add the milk.
  • Whisk the eggs and milk vigorously until the mixture is fully combined and uniform.
  • Whisk in the salt.
  • Melt the butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Use a rubber spatula to spread the butter around the bottom of the pan.
  • Pour in the eggs and reduce the heat to medium low.
  • Let the eggs cook without stirring for 30 seconds to 1 minute, depending on how many eggs are in the pan.
  • Use a rubber spatula to gently and slowly scrape across the bottom and around the edges of the pan as the eggs cook, scraping across different areas of the pan and in different directions so that no bits of egg dry out. As the eggs cook, fold them gently to help them cook evenly.
  • Once the eggs are mostly set but still a little moist, remove the pan from the heat.
  • You can use this method to cook more or less eggs. Just be sure to use a large enough mixing bowl, and a skillet of the appropriate size for your number of eggs. Ive tried scrambling eggs in a too small skillet and believe me, its no fun stirring them while trying to keep them from falling out of the pan.

Eric just looked at his calendar and said, Your parents fake anniversary is tomorrow!

He added their anniversary to his calendar on the wrong date, YEARS ago. And he still hasnt changed it. Ive gotten texts for the last 9 years on August 16:Eric: Tomorrow is your parents anniversary!Me: What? No its not.

But really, how lucky am I to have snagged a guy who not only remembers our anniversary, but my parents as well? Who am I to split hairs about the date?

It reminds me of how Erics number was recorded on my phone as Eric 106 for the longest time. Back in college I would add people to my phone organized by their first name and their apartment number

So when Eric called me up to ask me out on our first date, I added him to my phone as Eric 106 because thats where he lived, apartment 106. We dated, , got engaged, got married, had some kids, and then one day a few years ago Eric finally changed it to Eric Husband. Were simple folks over here guys. At least the EMTs will know who to call if Im ever in an accident.
