- St. Louis-style ribs: 32 minutes under pressure

Remove The Membrane From The Ribs
Your ribs may still have the connective tissue membrane on the back of the ribs. It looks white and shiny. Sometimes its still there and sometimes the membrane was already removed. Check to make sure the membrane on your ribs has been removed. If not, follow these steps to remove it:
- Flip the ribs so the top is face down.
- Slide a butter knife under the membrane and rip it off.
- Use your fingers to yank it up and off the ribs

Can You Cook Frozen Ribs In The Instant Pot
Yes! This is the beautify of a pressure cooker as you can use meat right from your freezer. The only difference between cooking fresh or frozen ribs will be the cooking time.
For frozen ones, add an additional 15-20 minutes to the cooking time. Follow the same instruction as in the recipe card below.
What is the trivet for the instant pot?
A trivet is like steamer baskets without feet and it can be used to keep food from touching the base of the cooker. This is the trivet that I have and used in this recipe.
How Many Ribs Can Fit In An Instant Pot

This will depend somewhat on the type of rib you use. Our favorite is the lean, mean baby back rib, which is cut from the spine of a pig, near the loin. These ribs are just so tender and theyre our go-to. Four pounds of baby back ribs equals roughly 14 ribs, and that fits comfortably into a standard Instant Pot.

How To Remove Membrane From Ribs
In some cases, you might end up buying ribs that have a white, shiny membrane connective tissue on the back . If you notice the membrane, then follow these steps to quickly and easily remove it:
- Ensure the ribs are facing down .
- Then, slide your fingers under the membrane and rip it off. Also, you could use a knife instead. At one end of the rack, slide a knife under the membrane and over a bone. Use a paper towel to grab the edge of the membrane and pull it off.

How To Make Instant Pot Ribs
The best Instant Pot ribs start with baby back ribs as theyre so tender.
PREPARE THE RIBS
I always rinse the ribs and then remove the membrane. The membrane very thin and located on the back of the ribs. Simply slide your knife under it to get ahold of it and then pull it off. If you cant seem to find it, ribs sometimes come with the membrane already removed and some people leave it on .
Once youve pulled it off, cut your slabs of ribs into two or 3 pieces as theyll need to fit into the Instant Pot. Combine your spice rub and massage it into the ribs on both sides.
ADD TO THE INSTANT POT
A trivet ensures the ribs are not sitting in the liquid if you dont have one you can prop them up on the onion slices.
Finally add the liquid to the bottom of the slow cooker and the ribs, seal, and cook .
FINISH THE RIBS
Once the ribs are nice and tender, allow them to naturally release for a little bit.
Add salt & pepper or bbq sauce and either broil or grill them for a few minutes to crisp up a bit.
What Are Beef Short Ribs
What kind of meat is short ribs? Its not what you might think!
Surprisingly, boneless beef short ribs are not actually rib meat. They are cut from the chuck, or shoulder, but can be harder to find.
Bone-in short ribs come from the belly and are a much fattier cut of meat. Many butchers will actually remove the bones from bone-in short ribs for you, which is what I did for this boneless short rib recipe.
TIP: If youre using bone-in short ribs, you will need to increase the pressure cook time to 50 minutes. Short rib meat takes a bit longer to cook with the bones than without.

Does Meat Get More Tender The Longer You Pressure Cook It
Yes, the longer you pressure cook, the more tender the meat will be because the connective tissues are broken down more. But this doesnt mean you must always cook it long because it might become too tender.
Having a bit of chew on your meat is important too. This is why I made sure my Instant Pot pork ribs recipe has that perfect fall-of-the-bone tenderness while having a good chew.
Why I Love Crockpot Ribs
This crockpot ribs recipe will work for any style of pork ribs. We did baby back ribs , but country-style ribs or spare ribs could be used too. I havent tried crock pot boneless ribs yet, but I see no reason why those wouldnt work. Id suggest shortening the cook time.
In addition to being one of the best crock pot recipes to come out of my kitchen in a long time, these slow cooker ribs have a full rack of winning qualities.
- The prep is quick and easy. Youll need less than 10 minutes to get them sauced and in your slow cooker.
- The BBQ Sauce is homemade. I adore the recipe below, and if you are looking for some extra sauce to serve on the side or another saucy option, you can check out my homemade barbecue sauce.
- Keep the oven off. Wondering how long to cook ribs in the oven at 200 degrees? Three to four hours! To me, that is a looooong time to have my oven running. The slow cooker will keep the house cool and the oven available if you need it for other endeavors.
- Less risk of overcooking. While I adore the flavor of barbecue ribs made on the grill, how long to cook ribs on the grill is challenging even for pit masters . Keep it simple and let the slow cooker do the work.
- Super smells. By the time the crock pot ribs are done cooking, your entire kitchen will smell like slow-cooked BBQ paradise.

Cooking Ribs Directly In Liquid Vs On A Rack In Instant Pot
When cooking ribs in Instant Pot, some of the meat flavors will transfer to the cooking liquid. Its great to put the ribs directly in the cooking liquid if youre simultaneously making the ribs sauce in the Instant Pot. This way, all the flavors that have escaped to the liquid will be brushed back on the ribs.
However, if youre discarding the cooking liquid afterward or youre using a premade/store-bought BBQ sauce, you can put the ribs on a rack in Instant Pot to preserve the meat flavors.

Instant Pot Pork Tenderloin
This recipe adds an interesting twist to the recommendation to cook pork tenderloin fast and hot. Instant Pots and pressure cookers have become extremely popular in recent years, which makes including a recipe for them a must. After all, you can make a delicious pork tenderloin in less than 30 minutes with a little help from an Instant Pot, and you can’t beat that time after a long day of work. For this particular recipe, we recommend the Instant Pot Duo Crisp pressure cooker that comes with two removable lids for cooking in different styles. It can sauté, steam, slow cook, warm, air fry, roast, bake, broil and dehydrate your favorite foods, resulting in the most tender and juicy meats you will ever taste.
To get started, season your marinated pork tenderloin with salt and pepper. Turn the Instant Pot to the sauté setting and heat a tablespoon of oil. Add the tenderloin and sear until both sides are golden brown, and then take it out and season some more with chili powder, cumin and garlic powder for a spicy, Mexican-like flavor profile. Feel free to use other flavor combinations garlic and Italian seasoning, for example to suit your taste. Place the trivet in the Instant Pot, add water and place the tenderloin on the trivet. Lock the lid and set it to pressure cook on high temperature for about five minutes.

Can You Eat The Membrane On Ribs
You can definitely eat the membrane, but the question is: why would you want to? The membrane is really tough and chewy, and it doesnt soften even if you pressure cook it.
It also makes the Instant Pot pork ribs less flavourful because the dry rub gets applied to the membrane on one side instead of the meat. The bottom part also gets less heat passing through it because the membrane is blocking it.
