Can You Air Fry In An Instant Pot
You sure can. Where the Ninja Foodi’s crisping lid once had a leg up is no longer Instant Pot’s blind spot. The fall 2019 collection brought the Instant Pot Duo Crisp, which opened the door for a collection of other air-frying Instant Pots with Pro, Plus, or both tacked onto the end of the name. There are also multiple dedicated air frying convection ovens by Instant Brands that do not pressure cook.
For folks who already have an Instant Pot and don’t want to replace it just to buy the Duo Crisp, Instant Pot released a standalone air fryer lid that attaches to regular Instant Pots and turns them into an air fryer. This lid works on all existing models with the exception of the Instant Pot Pro Plus, the now- discontinued Duo Evo Plus, Duo SV, Smart WiFi, or Max. This lid is compatible with the Duo Nova, which is also discontinued.

You can turn your instant pot into an air fryer with this air fryer lid. I love this option to unlock a whole new set of cooking techniques that allow you to crisp food right in your Instant Pot, which is really convenient if you dont want to get a separate air fryer.
It comes with a few extra accessories of its own to make the cooking process easier: a fryer basket with stand, a metal plate to cook 2 foods at once, and a safety lid for the air fryer to sit on.
Be aware that this air fryer lid does not have pressure cooker functionality on its own. Its a separate device that replaces the pressure cooker lid. It is compatible with the Duo, Duo Plus and others. But it is not compatible with the following models: Smart Wi-Fi 60, Smart Bluetooth, Duo Evo Plus 6, Duo Evo Plus 60, Duo SV 60 or Max 60.
Instant Pot Ceramic Inner Cooking Pot
I cant express enough how nice it is to have two inner pots. Having an extra will allow you to cook two parts of a meal without transferring and cleaning the original pot after the first step. I use this for things like Meatballs & Mashed Potatoes and Orange Chicken with Rice. You can cook the Main dish in one pot, then replace it with a second to steam the rice.
If youre going to get a second inner pot, I recommend a ceramic non-stick version to compliment the stainless steel version. This 6-quart version has a ceramic non-stick interior coating, and is plastic, PTFE, and PFOA free. It can also be transferred to the oven up to fairly high temps, so you can keep the food in it warm while cooking in the second pot.

What If You Have Different Cooking Times
When attempting to cook more than one dish with the PIP method, try to have the same cooking time for the two dishes you are cooking What if you have different cooking times? Partly cook the longer-cooking item, do a quick release of pressure, and add in the second item and continue cooking both items.
Consider how sensitive your ingredients are. Some recipes can cook longer and not be affected much. You can tightly cover the container of the faster-cooking item with a double layer of aluminum foil. The foil slows down the cooking of the contents. Meats cook faster when it is cut into small pieces so that can reduce the pressure time.
Materials can affect time as well. Cooking the faster-cooking item in a glass, ceramic, or silicone container instead of stainless steel will slow down the cooking time a little bit.

What Does An Instant Pot Do
Yeah, why can’t you just get a regular slow cooker? At their core, Instant Pots are electric pressure cookers. The proprietary locking lid creates a seal that heats any water inside far past its boiling point, turning it to steam. When that steam has nowhere else to go, it creates pressure thus cooking food 2-10 times faster than what an oven or slow cooker could do.
The Instant Pot’s heart is a microprocessor aided by built-in temperature sensors that give Instant Pots the ability to 1. Mimic the cooking functions of multiple different appliances and 2. Switch between those functions at the press of a button. This collection of programs can be tweaked and tailored to perform super specific tasks that you may have struggled with pre-Instant Pot . They get down to the nitty-gritty of heat intensity, pressure, and cooking duration to achieve more precise results in the kitchen. Some of the more advanced models even offer personalized programming and will remember your settings for the next time.

Are Instant Pots Safe
One of the main reasons people are often on the fence about purchasing an Instant Pot or an electric pressure cooker in general is safety. Stovetop pressure cookers got a bad reputation because their lids were relatively easy to remove before the pressure was released, which ran the risk of burns and messes, experts told us. electric pressure cookers like the Instant Pot are incredibly safe compared to stovetop pressure cookers, Weinstein said. And even are much safer than they used to be.
Weinstein also noted that Instant Pots and similar electric pressure cookers are designed with safety mechanisms so theyll shut down if something goes wrong. One of those safety mechanisms is a burn notice thats triggered if the Instant Pot overheats and food begins to burn the appliance shuts off completely in this case.
The One Extra Piece Of Equipment You Need To Use Your Instant Pot As A Slow Cooker
If you own an Instant Pot, youre familiar with a few rules to using it:
