Seeking Hard Boiled Eggs That Are Easy To Peel Make Instant Pot Eggs They’re Ready In 15 Minutes And Make Perfect Easily Peeled Eggs Every Time Promise

Like many of you, I abandoned the dream of finding one surefire method for making consistently perfect hard boiled eggs some time ago. After trying a few too many “foolproof” tricks with spotty results, I relegated easy-peel eggs to the same category as unicorns and cheap airfare: nice to fantasize about, but if they were truly real, you’d think we’d have heard about it by now.

But that’s the thing about mythsjust when you’ve thrown your hands in the air and walked away, something new comes along to rekindle your hope. Like Fox Mulder, we want to believe.

For me, that something new was my pressure cooker and a friend’s improbable suggestion that I try using it to make a batch of eggs. Just like that, the dream was alive again.

How To Peel Hard

After making your hard-boiled eggs in the Instant Pot, knowing just how to peel a hard-boiled egg will save you a lot of trouble. We recommend using a spoon to separate the egg from the shell, peeling the cracked hard-boiled egg with your hands under cold running water or shaking the hard-boiled egg in a mason jar with water .

Insert The Basket In The Pot

You will need to have a basket. The basket will elevate the eggs from the surface of the pot.

If you place the eggs directly in the pot, it will work, but it will burn the shell. It doesnt affect the taste too much, but you will get brown spots on the egg shells and on the eggs themselves. Same goes for any part of the egg touching the sides.

If you use the basket and an egg is leaning up against the side, you will get some slight browning on the shell, but not as badly as if you just placed the egg straight into the pot. Straight into the pot will produce the brown burned spots on the shell that will also transfer to the hard boiled egg. If it is leaning against the side, you will get slight browning on the side, but it hasnt transferred to the egg.

Does that make sense? I hope it does. That is the one main issue with the oven eggs brown spots from the shell getting burned. Like I said, it doesnt really affect taste, but its not a beautiful egg anymore.

The point is, if you have the basket rack, this is going to produce the best results!

Does Altitude Matter When Cooking Eggs In The Pressure Cooker

Altitude does it make a difference? Im not sure. I live at about 5,000 ft above sea level. The eggs tested were all cooked at my current elevation. If you are at sea level, Id love to hear your results and alterations to this recipe. Ive heard there is a slight difference in cook time depending on elevation, but my guess is, this applies to much higher elevations, above 7-8,ooo feet or more.

Numbers-I cooked the eggs in four groups of batches in the Instant Pot: groups of 4 eggs, 6 eggs and 12 eggs. I did not see any difference in amount of eggs or changes to cooking time depending on the size of the Instant Pot I used. As I said earlier, I have both 6 & 8 quart Instant Pots.

The rack I used the rack that comes with the Instant Pot to cook the eggs. The eggs will scorch if cooked directly on the bottom of the insert to the Instant Pot, so make sure to use the metal rack, or a metal or silicone steaming basket.

Make sure to leave a comment and rate this recipe after youve used this method in your Instant Pot and let us know about any alterations youve made!

Boiling Eggs In A Pressure Cooker

Egg Baskets Konrisa Stainless Steel Steam Rack For Instant Pot Cooking ...

Word of advice if this is your first-time boiling eggs without a rack in your pressure cooker do not put 10 or even 12 eggs in.

Try it with 2 or 4 to see how your pressure cooker works and boils your eggs. Several factors impact the boiling process.

Like altitude, egg temperature, the freshness of your eggs, your pressure cooker. So try it first to see if it works then expand and add more eggs.

Electric pressure cookers are different and cook differently, so the cooking guidelines you find are a starting point.

The only way to find out if they apply is to test and see if you need some adjustments.

2. Medium cooked egg for 3 minutes

Easy Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

Im so excited to share this Easy Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs recipe with you. If youve never used the Instant Pot 5-5-5- Method, prepare to have your mind blown. This is seriously the easiest way to make perfect hard boiled eggs every time!

I love hard boiled eggs, but if Im totally honest with you, every attempt I made to hard boil eggs ended in disaster. Seriously.

Hard boiled eggs are one of my go-to snacks, and Im slightly obsessed with egg salad, but I always make my hubby make the hard-boiled eggs for them because they turn out horrible when I make them.

Seriously the egg yolks would either be overly cooked and have a green ring around the edges or the egg whites would be super runny.

I tried every method possible too. I tried starting with cold water and then getting up to boiling water and then putting them in a cold water bath. I tried adding the eggs to hot water. I adjusted the cook time. I tried less timeand more timeand still, the perfect boiled egg eluded me.

When I started hearing rumors on the internet that you could make hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot, I didnt get too excitedbecause I figured it would be like every other hard boiled egg method I trieda disaster.

But, I was wrong!

What Is The Right Egg Temperature

There are two camps when it comes to eggs. Store it in the fridge or store it at room temperature.

Im not saying one way is better than the other. In the past, I would store my eggs in the fridge and now I keep them at room temperature.

Two reasons:

  • Reason 1 when I boil an egg 9 times out of 10 the eggshell broke and I lost half of my egg
  • Reason 2 when I buy my eggs on the market, at the farmers or supermarket all of the eggs are kept at room temperature. So, I decided to changes my ways and when I boil an egg now 1 time out of 20 a shell breaks

Set the time for 5 minutes on High Pressure. Allow the pressure to release for 5 minutes and then quick release the remaining pressure by carefully placing a towel over the pressure release vent until all of the pressure has released. Remove the lid of the Instant Pot, run cool water over your eggs and then plunge the eggs into a bowl of ice water. Peel immediately.

  • Time 5 minutes

Ive found that having an ice bath ready in a large bowl helps to cool down the eggs even more after initially running under cool water. This helps the eggs to peel perfectly every time.

If you do not have an Instant Pot, you may want to use my other methods for cooking them, such as my classic method for hard boiling eggs and how to make them in the oven.

What Ingredients Do I Need

The ingredient list is pretty simple when it comes to hard boiling eggs:

Pro Tip: To avoid cracked eggs, always start with room temperature eggs. It reduces the shock to the egg and your chance of having a crack after cooking. So set them out on the counter for about 30 minutes before you start your cooking.

Pour The Water Over The Eggs

Simply pour the 4 cups of water with baking soda over the eggs. The water should go slightly above the bottom of the rack basket, so the eggs will barely be in a bit of water. They will not be submerged. The main point of this method is pressure steam cooking. You are not boiling them in the classic sense.

How To Make Instant Pot Boiled Eggs Without A Rack

Take your fresh eggs and put them in the Instant Pot no rack required to boil your eggs.

If you have a rack, you can put it in the pressure cooker and put the eggs on the trivet.

Add 1 cup of cold water into the Instant Pot. Close the lid and secure. Turn the valve to the sealing position and set your timer to 4 minutes.

In general, it takes my pressure cooker about 5 to 6 minutes for the pan to come to pressure.

It can vary depending on the type of pressure cooker, size of the pressure cooker but also the pressure cooker brand.

As soon as the cooking time is done quick-release immediately and put your eggs in ice-cold water.

Let the eggs sit for at least half a minute. Peel the egg and you are ready to serve.

How Long To Cook Boiled Eggs

  • If you like softer boiled eggs, cook eggs for 4 minutes instead of 5 minutes, quick release the pressure, and dont omit the ice bath! This will yield a yolk that is mostly runny.
  • For harder boiled eggs , try the 5-5-5 method: High pressure for 5 minutes, natural release for 5 minutes , and ice bath for 5 minutes.

It will take a certain amount of time for the pressure cooker to come to pressure, depending on how many eggs you are cooking. The more eggs, the longer it will take.

While the eggs are cooking, prepare an ice water bath.

Quick release pressure, remove lid, and and immediately put eggs in an ice water bath. This step is essential to stop the cooking process otherwise, the eggs will continue to cook due to residual heat.

Thats it! Enjoy your hard boiled eggs!

How To Make Hard Boiled Eggs In Your Instant Pot

Youll want to start by washing and drying your eggs.

Now pour 1 cup of water into the bottom of your Instant Pot.

Next place all of your eggs in the bottom of your Instant Pot using either a trivet, steamer basket or egg rack. Do not stack your eggs on top of each other as your eggs will NOT come out perfectly if you do this.

Now close your Instant Pot and use the manual high pressure setting to set the cooking time for 5 minutes. It will take a little time to pressurize and heat up and then it will start the 5-minute cooking countdown.

Once your eggs are cooked, youll want to let the pot naturally release for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, use the manual release to release the rest of the pressure. Be careful when you do this as a lot of steam will be released quickly.

During the 5 minutes youre waiting after your eggs are cooked and are doing the natural release thing, but before you use the manual release, youll want to fill up a large bowl with water and some ice to create an ice bath for your eggs.

After youve manually released the pressure, youll want to immediately move the eggs from the instant pot into the cold water. Youll want to use tongs son that you dont burn yourself on the super warm eggs.

Leave eggs in the ice water bath for 5 minutes!

Storeor peel and serve.
