Two Completely Separate Lids

How to Use An Instant Pot – Instant Pot 101 – DUO CRISP AIR FRYER

I absolutely love the way Instant Pot has handled the two-lid set up of the Instant Pot Crisp.

Both lids are completely removable, which cuts down on the weight you have to lift at any one time. The Instant Pot knows what lid youre using and wont allow you to use a pressure cooking function when the air fryer lid is on .

The pressure cooker lid is the same as the Ultra and the Nova, so it has the quick release switch that automatically resets to the Sealed position when the lid is closed.

If youre familiar with other models of Instant Pot, you likely already know and love the handle slots used for resting your pressure cooking lid after cooking. The air fryer lid fits ingeniously into these handle slots. This makes it so easy to line up the lid and base sensors needed to power the air frying lid.

Because of the connection between the lid and the base, there is no power cord on the air fryer lid.

The air frying lid also has a cool matching tray. Use it with the Instant Pot logo facing upwards to have a safe place to put the lid when its hot. Once the lid has cooled, you can turn the tray over and the air frying lid will lock in place for safe storage.

Verdict: Which Should You Choose

According to our poll on Instagram with 578 voters, the Instant Pot is the winner with 329 votes. The air fryer wasnt too far behind with 249 votes. Ultimately, the choice is yours and it should be based on your cooking lifestyle.

If you have a small household that has a habit of eating fast fried foods, then an air fryer is something that could be beneficial to your health and wellness.

If you like to make large batches of stews, steam veggies, and cooking grains then a pressure cooker would suit you better.

If would like to have both but cant justify more appliances taking up space, purchasing the combo of the pressure cooker and the crisp air fryer lid would satisfy both styles of food cravings.

Instant Pot Duo Crisp And Air Fryer Review: Design

Instant Pot Duo Crisp & Air Fryer 11

The Instant Pot Duo Crisp and Air Fryer looks simple with its trademark stainless steel exterior, LCD display and streamlined touch control pad. Of course, the main differences are the two separate lids , that automatically swap over the wet and dry functions. The 8-quart size provides a generous capacity for families or handling large quantities. However, it is quite large and bulky, particularly once the air fryer lid is on, measuring 14.8 x 14.2 x 14.2 inches. Whats more, if you have low-hanging cabinetry, the top of the air fryer lid might not have enough clearance, so bear this in mind. In any case, if you only have small quantities or limited space, it may be worthwhile opting for the 6-quart capacity.

The touch control panel shows the standard programs such as Slow Cook, Pressure Cook, Saute, Steam and Sous Vide. In addition, it has a specific line for the air fryer functions such as Air Fry, Grill, Roast, Bake and Dehydrate. You can manually adjust the temperature and cooking duration using the buttons on either side of the LCD display. The dry cook functions can be set to a temperature between 84C 204oC while the wet cook functions offer Hi or Lo temperatures.

The box also contains a dehydrating tray, air fry basket, multi-functional rack, and protective pad which is handy for placing down your hot lids safely on the countertop after removing. It doesnt come with a recipe book or charts, however, these can be found on the website or downloaded via the app.

We Tested The Instant Pot Air Fryer Here Is Our Honest Review

Kitchen counter spaces across the nation were being filled with incredible gadgets this year and the number one was our beloved Instant Pot. Now, Instant Pot introduced its new buddy Instant Vortex Plus Air Fryer Oven to share some cooking time.

There are plenty of other brands cornering the air fryer market. Instant Pot took its time to see the true needs of their consumers to develop one that was just right.

Features: No Programs Lots Of Cooking

While other models of Instant Pots have multiple program buttons for things like rice or poultry, this cooker eliminated them in favor of cooking mode buttons. For pressure cooking, the buttons are Pressure Cook, Sauté, Slow Cook, Steam, and Sous Vide. For air frying, the buttons are Air Fry, Roast, Bake, Broil, and De-Hydrate. Universal controls for temperature and time use + and buttons, and along the bottom of the controls are Delay Start, Cancel, Start, and Keep Warm.

Aside from the peculiar spelling of “dehydrate,” I like the cooking options on this model over cooking programs for specific foods. Brown rice and white rice dont cook the same, and chicken breasts arent the same as thighs, so Id rather set the time and temperature myself. Still, some cooks might miss the ease of pressing a single button to make stew.

Air Fry / Cooking Rack

The included air fry / cooking rack is meant to be reversible. Use the tall side up for air frying, pressure cooking, and steaming. The shorter side up is meant for broiling and dehydrating.

In practice, the single-level air fry/cooking rack doesnt hold as much as the crisper basket that comes with the two-lid Duo Crisp model. It also can be more difficult to clean if youre cooking something drippy, simply because of all the small openings in the rack.

The trivet doesnt fit a 7×3 cake pan, which is our workhorse for pot-in-pot cooking. However, it is wide enough to fit a 6-inch round pan.

Instant Pot Vs Air Fryer: Performance

Can the New Air Fryer/Instant Pot Duo Replace Your Entire Kitchen?

In our experience, when it comes to performance, each appliance is best at what its designed to do. That means, of the two, air fryers are generally better at air-frying foods. The food comes out crispier, crunchier and more appealing on the whole. That said, here are 9 things you should never put in an air fryer.

However, Instant Pots are popular for a reason the pressure cooking and slow cooking functions are second to none. That means these are great for cooking stews, meats and all kinds of recipes to a professional standard, with moist and even results. However, be warned that we have found that alternative dedicated appliances, such as rice cookers, tend to do a better job than the equivalent setting on an Instant Pot. So while the versatility is indeed a selling point, its no guarantee of the performance across each setting.

Instant Pots and air fryers are often similar in size, but there are more compact air fryer designs out there which can help you save surface space. Plus, if you opt for an Instant Pot with the ability to air fry, bear in mind that you will need to store the additional lid as well. Air fryers tend to weigh less than Instant Pots on top of this, making them more maneuverable.

Both appliances usually come with dishwasher-safe parts for ease of cleaning, although the Instants pot will generally take up more room in the dishwasher than an air fryers basket.

What Comes With The Duo Crisp With Ultimate Lid

The Ultimate Lid Duo Crisp comes with only one accessory: an Air Fry/Cooking Rack. This rack is meant to be reversible. Use the tall side up for air frying, pressure cooking, and steaming. The shorter side up is meant for broiling and dehydrating.

It does not come with a spare silicone ring, since the ring is non-removable. It also does not come with the air fry basket that is standard with the traditional Duo Crisp, which is too tall to use in this model.

In practice, however, the single-level air fry/cooking rack doesnt hold as much as the crisper basket.

Instant Pot Vs Air Fryer Which Is Better

Who Should Buy The Duo Crisp With Ultimate Lid

The Duo Crisp with Ultimate Lid is a good choice for someone who uses a multicooker often but also wants to air fry on occasion. I stress often because if you tend to use an air fryer far more than an Instant Pot, pressure cooker or multicooker, this model is far bulkier and heavier than most solo air fryers.

I personally air fry far more than I use a multicooker so I’m happy with my small and light 2.6-quart Magic Bullet air fryer and its nonstick basket. I leave it on my counter most times, whereas my multicooker is stored in a closet until I’m ready to use it.

The Instant Pot Duo Crisp with Ultimate Lid is bulkier than most air fryers and it also requires more cleanup after an air frying session than I’m used to. It also takes about five minutes to preheat, while most other air fryers don’t need preheat time at all. That said, once it was ready to cook, this machine air-fried, broiled and roasted with the best of ’em.

I liked the new Duo Crisp fine, but the originalDuo Crisp without the built-in air fryer lid can be had for about $130. For my money, that’s the better pick if you’re looking for a machine that does it all. If you already have a 6-quart Instant Pot you like, grab the air frying lid for $70 or on sale for $55 at Crate & Barrel.

Thrilled, I ordered it from Amazon. It arrived a few days later in a fairly large box, almost the size of the Instant Pot itself. Indeed, the Air Fryer Lid is not insignificant in size, measuring 13.8 by 13.7 by 12.8 inches. It weighs in at 11.7 pounds, which is not exactly feather-light, but I didnt find it to be too heavy. Bundled with the lid is a fryer basket and a metal insert, which you can use as a broiler tray or as a way to air-fry two tiers of food at once. Theres also an Air Fryer Lid cover, which you can turn upside down to use as a resting spot for your lid when its hot, so you wont damage your countertop.

Interestingly, the instructions note that you should not have the Instant Pot and the Air Fryer Lid plugged in at the same time. In fact, the Air Fryer Lids plug has plastic webbing around it that covers up the other outlet when plugged in. The idea here is that the Air Fryer Lid is pretty powerful, and having a couple of devices plugged in might overwhelm the circuit.

About halfway through, the Air Fryer Lid beeped loudly, with the words Turn Food on its display. I then removed the lid and proceeded to, well, turn the food. From reading other air fryer recipes, this seems to be unique to the Air Fryer Lid. Most other air fryers just recommend you shake the basket around, and even thats up to you theres certainly no flashing reminder of it on the device itself.

The Difference Between An Instant Pot And An Air Fryer

Theres actually quite a big difference between an Instant Pot and an air fryer!

Instant Pot An Instant Pot is a type of pressure cooker. Technically, its a multicooker since it is a pressure cooker, rice cooker, slow cooker, and so much more. It can also sauté and make yogurt! The Instant Pot is wonderful for cooking meats to perfection, quickly making rice, soups, and other types of liquid-based foods. There are several Instant Pot models out there to choose from!

Air Fryer An air fryer is basically a small convection oven. It fries food with high cooking temperatures and a fan that pushes the hot air throughout the device. The result? Crispy food thats fried with less oil in less time than traditional frying methods, making it an often healthier, guilt-free, and convenient option.

How It Performs As A Pressure Cooker

Instant Pot Duo Crisp Plus Air Fryer Beginner’s Manual

I also made one of my go-to pressure cooker recipes: pulled pork shoulder. I followed a recipe I’ve used several times in other Instant Pots: dredging the 3-pound pork shoulder in flour and spices, searing in the Instant Pot and pressure cooking for 45 minutes. The Duo Crisp turned out a near mirror image of the fork-tender pork shoulders I’ve made before in the same amount of time.
