How To Store Gumbo

  • Refrigerating Pour the gumbo in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator to store. It will last 3-4 days refrigerated. Allow gumbo to cool slightly before refrigerating.
  • Freezing Gumbo can be frozen up to 6 months. Keep the gumbo in an airtight container in the freezer. You can also freeze it in individual portions for easing serving. Allow gumbo to chill before freezing.
  • Reheating Reheat gumbo in a saucepan over medium heat 10-15 minutes or reheat gumbo in a slow cooker by placing the gumbo in the pot then covering and setting to low for 3-4 hours. If your slow cooker has a warming feature, you can use that too. For reheating frozen gumbo, defrost the gumbo first by transferring it from the freezer to the refrigerator overnight.

    Ingredients You Will Need

    • Chicken breasts I used pasture-raised, organic boneless, skinless chicken breasts that I trimmed myself then sliced each one in half to make cutlets. You can also buy chicken breast cutlets and use those.
    • Tomato sauce You can use store-bought or a homemade marinara like this homemade san Marzano tomato sauce.
    • Olive oilOlive oil or avocado oil both work well in this recipe.
    • Mozzarella + parmesan cheese Again you can use pre-shredded or buy blocks of each cheese and shred it yourself.
    • Garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt & pepper Use any seasoning you like. I chose this combination for that real Italian flavor we all love in a good chicken parmesan recipe.

    Natural Release Versus Quick Release

This basically refers to the method of depressurizing the Instant Pot after cooking. For natural release you do nothing. Just let the Instant pot gradually come down in pressure on its own.

For quick release, you have to open the steam release valve which forces the Instant Pot to depressurize the pot quicker.

Faqs For Instant Pot Chicken Breasts

Why are my Instant Pot chicken breasts tough?

The most likely cause for this is overcooking. For best results, weight your chicken breasts on a food scale and watch the cook time very carefully, including time left in pot after cooking is complete.

How long does chicken take in Instant Pot?

It depends on what type of chicken, and what cut you are making. This recipe resembles a grilled chicken breast, and it takes about 15 minutes of cook time, plus a bit of come-to-pressure time.

Can you overcook chicken in an Instant Pot?

Yes, this is easy to do using a quick cooking method like pressure cooking. To avoid overcooking, pay close attention to chicken breast size, and watch your cook time very closely. Even an extra minute can cause the meat to overcook.

Can I use frozen chicken breasts?

I would not recommend it, although several members of my audience have written in, saying they had great results using frozen chicken breasts. I myself have had mixed results. So for consistent results, I recommend using fresh, thawed chicken breasts.

Can I use cutlets or thin chicken breasts?

I would not recommend thin cuts, since they will become overcooked. Make sure you use regular whole chicken breasts.

    Can I make this in a 3 quart and/or 8 quart model?

Yes! Just use the minimum fill requirements for the liquid in your particular model/ size.

Can I use chicken stock/ broth in place of water? Can I make shredded chicken using this recipe? Can I use the poultry button instead?

Can I Stack Chicken Breasts In Instant Pot

You can definitely stack the chicken breast in the Instant Pot, just make sure to not overfill the Instant Pot past the MAX line on the inner pot.

Also, if you do intend to stack the chicken breasts, make sure you season them well beforehand since part of the chicken will be covered up during the cooking process.

    Instant Pot Orange Chicken Tips:

Here are our tips for making the best orange chicken in the instant pot!

    • For super tender chicken: Before you cook your chicken, clean chicken of any excess fat. Pound with a meat mallet to about 1 inch thickness and then cut into cubes
    • Make sure to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the instant pot to avoid getting a burn notice. When you pour in your orange sauce use a wooden spoon to gently brush along the bottom and make sure it doesnt catch on anything
    • Only lightly brown your chicken The chicken will continue to cook under pressure, so you dont need to fully cook the chicken when you are first browning it!
    • Use your instant pot to cook your rice before you cook your chicken. To make instant pot white rice I do equal parts white rice & broth . Spray the bottom of the pot with olive oil. Add rice, stir in broth. Cover and set to sealing, high pressure for 3 minutes.

How To Make Moroccan Chicken In An Instant Pot Or Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker

Making Moroccan chicken in the Instant Pot electric pressure cooker or Ninja Foodi multi-cooker couldn’t be easier.

Season the chicken and then give it a quick sauté on both sides in the pot.

Then the chicken is set aside while you sauté the garlic, ginger, and onions.

After that, add the quinoa, dried cherries, and chickpeas into the Instant Pot. Pour in the chicken broth.

Side note: I like the flavor of dried cherries in this recipe, but you could also use dates, raisins, or even dried apricot.

Close the lid, make sure the vent is on SEALING, then set the dials to POULTRY and set the time to 10 minutes. It takes a few minutes for the Instant Pot to reach pressure. Once it does, it will start counting down. Once it stops counting down from 10, very carefully turn the knob to VENTING and Quick Release.

Safety tip: I use tongs whenever I turn the pressure release valve knob you could use a wooden spoon or super thick oven mitts.

After a few minutes, the Instant Pot pin will go down all the way indicating all pressure has been released. That’s when you know it’s safe to open the lid. At this point, your beautiful Moroccan chicken dish should be done!

You can use a meat thermometer to double check the doneness of the chicken. If it’s at 165°F degrees, then your chicken is ready to go!
