What You Should Be Aware Of Before Buying

Is the Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid Worth It? Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid 101

You can only use the CrispLid with a 6-quart or 8-quart electric pressure cookers. In addition, it can only be used with a stainless steel pot. It does not fit other sizes and could damage ceramic, aluminum, or nonstick coatings.

The air fryer basket is small and doesnt hold as much as I had hoped. You will need to rotate your food or do a few smaller batches to crisp food throughout.

The power cord on the Crisp Lid is really short. This is intentional to prevent tripping hazards. The User Guide directs you not to use extension cords with your Crisp Lid.

A safety feature built into the crisp lid is that it will only cook at or above 450F for 20 minutes. After that, you will have to wait at least 10 minutes before you can use it above 450F again.

If you want to flip your food or rotate the food, raise the handle to pause the cooking process. However, if youre not extremely quick at shifting the food, the cook time will restart when you lock the handle back in place. So youll want to keep an eye on the time before you adjust it.

Why It’s Worth The Money: Veggie Fries

The Air Fryer Lid saves so much time compared to cooking in the oven. I use it a lot for roasting vegetables like broccoli, green beans and Brussels sprouts. I prefer them crispy and crunchy. In the oven, that can take close to an hour. In the air fryer, it takes less than 15 minutes. If you have trouble getting your kids to eat veggies, try cooking them in the air fryer. The vegetables crispiness is more like a French fry, so they may find the crunch more appealing. To prep, toss the veggies with EVOO, salt, pepper and a little garlic powder and cook for 12 to 15 minutes at 400 degrees F.

Making Fries With The Air Fryer Lid

For instance, to make fries, I start by putting the frying basket in the pressure cooker. Next, I like to preheat the pot and the basket , so I place the lid over the pot. When it makes a small ding sound, you know its locked in place.

Now, its time to get to set stuff up. Press the Air Fry button on the lid and adjust the time and temperature. Youll notice the temperature and time are already pre-set, but you can change the values by pressing the plus and minus buttons for Temp and Time.

For me, it takes about 13 to 15 minutes at 360F to make a batch of golden, crispy fries that melt in your mouth. When youre happy with the settings, press the Start button. Youll notice the display only says On – this is the preheating section of the cycle and when its done, it will display the temperature and make a noise.

Once the preheating is over, I use the handle on the lid to pick it up and place it on the provided heat-resistant pan. Next, I add the fries inside the basket and place the lid back on – the air frying process will resume.

One of the reasons I love this lid so much is that it notifies me when I should turn the fries . It does this by pausing the air frying process and displaying a turn food message . So, to do this, I will take the lid off and arm myself with a pair of heat-resistant mittens to pull out the frying basket and shake the fries. This lets the air move better through the food and ensures the fries will be golden on both sides.

The Difference Between An Instant Pot And An Air Fryer

Theres actually quite a big difference between an Instant Pot and an air fryer!

Instant Pot An Instant Pot is a type of pressure cooker. Technically, its a multicooker since it is a pressure cooker, rice cooker, slow cooker, and so much more. It can also sauté and make yogurt! The Instant Pot is wonderful for cooking meats to perfection, quickly making rice, soups, and other types of liquid-based foods. There are several Instant Pot models out there to choose from!

Air Fryer An air fryer is basically a small convection oven. It fries food with high cooking temperatures and a fan that pushes the hot air throughout the device. The result? Crispy food thats fried with less oil in less time than traditional frying methods, making it an often healthier, guilt-free, and convenient option.

Air Fryer Potato Chips

These four-ingredient potato chips are insanely easy to make with your air fryer, and theyre less greasy than bagged potato chips and crispier than oven-baked ones.

All youll really need to make them are potatoes, water, salt, and olive oil, but I like to season mine with garlic salt, crushed red pepper, chives, and dried parsley.

The great thing about homemade potato chips, though, is that you can make them precisely how you want them to be.

These chicken fingers are tender and juicy on the inside and perfectly crispy and well-seasoned on the outside.

Theyre a little bit garlic-y, a little bit smoky, and a whole lot of good.

Of course, you could always bake them in the oven, but they cook a bit faster and get less greasy in the air fryer.

Im torn on this recipe because I swear by my phenomenal garlic-parmesan Brussels sprouts. Theyre the only way I really enjoy Brussels sprouts.

However, cooking sprouts in the air fryer is so much more convenient.

It doesnt get much easier than tossing around your sprouts in some olive oil and pancetta before dumping them in the basket.

Let them cook for about 9 minutes, then pick the basket up and shake it before letting it cook for another 9 minutes.

Thats all you have to do. Transfer them to a bowl and drizzle them with the balsamic vinegar glaze.

Its such a quick and easy process that its hard not to love this recipe.

If you want to pile on the veggies for a veggie supreme, thats perfectly fine, too.

Heck, if you want to load it down with olives, anchovies, pineapples, and bacon bits, you do you!

The Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid Wins Out For Design

While we did like that the Mealthy CrispLid is designed with a glass lid so you can see into the pot, the surface got too hot to touch, where the Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid gets warm, but not too hot to touch. The Mealthy CrispLid comes with an elevated trivet and basket that allows the food to sit higher in the pot, which is nice because you don’t have to reach into a hot basket to remove the food. The Cook

I tried a variety of foods to test out the SousVide Art air fryer lid: chicken-fried steak, kale chips, and green beans.

I figured these were all different enough to show the rangeor lack thereofof the air fryer lid.

I was impressed at the ease of the processI literally just put my ingredients in, pressed a button, and waited .

The kale chips were especially impressive. What would typically take me at least an hour in a typical convection oven, I was able to accomplish in a 6-minute cook cycle with the air fryer lid. And, they turned out perfect.

The chicken-fried steak came out with a small amount of oil sprayhowever, compared to what I wouldve gotten had I actually deep-fried it, it was minuscule. Again, the cook was perfect the steak was crispy yet not too tough in the center.

The green beans ended up a little too crispy than I was aiming for, but they were still delicious.

It seems like itll be the same touch-and-go process as it was for me and my first Instant Potyou learn your own cook times and settings for specific things as you go.

Its a bit about trial and error, but the manual, which comes with the lid, came with some great tips on their recommended cook times and temperatures.

The Clean

This could very well be the main attraction of the air fryer lid. A typical air fryer is, honestly, incredibly annoying to clean.

The Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid Works As Promised But Only For Small Batches

The Instant Pot has garnered a huge fan base in recent years, and for good reason. Yes, it replaces your slow cooker and you can make yogurt in it but its real claim to fame is as an electric pressure cooker that can significantly shorten cooking time. Imagine braised short ribs in under an hour, or homemade pho in 30 minutes. The best part is that you can just set the timer and walk away, without having to tend to it like you would a stovetop version. It’s been over two years since I purchased my Instant Pot Ultra, and it remains one of my favorite kitchen appliances.

That said, I found myself lusting after yet another trendy kitchen appliance: the air fryer. The idea behind it is that it can “fry” foods with just hot air and without the oily mess that deep-frying entails. However, as publications like Wirecutter and Cook’s Illustrated point out, air fryers are nothing more than re-packaged convection ovens. If you do want crispy “air-fried” foods, Wirecutter recommends getting a countertop convection oven instead, which obviously has a lot more features than just air frying.
