The items included with the air fryer lid and its features are highly similar to the lid that comes with the Duo Crisp. Included are the lid, an air fryer basket, basket stand, dehydrator rack, and a plastic stand to set your hot lid on.
The primary difference between the 6 Qt lid and the Duo Crisp is that the Duo Crisp incorporated the electricity for the lid into the entire unit. So there is no separate plug with that.
The 6 Qt lid has its own power source. Because of this, it is very important to unplug the pressure cooker before using the air fryer lid.
To help you with this, Instant put a blocker on the plug, so you cant plug it in with another appliance plugged into the same outlet. I like that!
Before you complain that you want your toaster or Vortex or something else plugged in and running at the same time, please note that these appliances will likely trip your fuses or circuits if you do that.
Ultimately, if you are deciding between the Air fryer lid for an existing or new 6 Qt pot or the Duo Crisp, the choice really should just be based on size. They have the same features and work in the same ways.
Like the Duo Crisp, the lid makes the unit taller. Not quite as tall as the Duo Crisp, but close.

The Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid Wins Out For Design
While we did like that the Mealthy CrispLid is designed with a glass lid so you can see into the pot, the surface got too hot to touch, where the Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid gets warm, but not too hot to touch. The Mealthy CrispLid comes with an elevated trivet and basket that allows the food to sit higher in the pot, which is nice because you donât have to reach into a hot basket to remove the food. That said, this problem is resolved in the deeper Instant Pot air fryer basket by using a set of tongs.

Air Fryer Lid For Instant Pot
This is basically how it works.
- First of all, it fits on all pressure cooker brands that are either a 6 or 8 quart size!!
- So whether you have a Crockpot Express, Mealthy or Instant Pot the Mealthy Crisp Lid will work!!
- It doesnt have smart programs with auto time and temp. like the Cosori dual blaze but that isnt absolutely necessary.
Prepare your Instant Pot recipes as you would normally.
If you need to stop it at any point you can press the button with the square.
It was VERY easy to figure out. The only huh I had was when I first used it it didnt turn on right away. I figured out it was because the handle wasnt all the way down. So remember that tip.
- I compare this to my Ninja Foodi and think it is a great option if you arent interested in buying a new machine.
- This allows those who have owned their pressure cooker for quite some time, but want to add the air fryer technology, to do just that for a fraction of the price.
- It is easy to clean where you can put the lower level air fryer basket right into the dishwasher and wipe the underside of the glass clean with a damp cloth.

If youre after a versatile, 2-in-1, multicooker and air fryer combo, the Instant Pot Duo Crisp and Air Fryer has got you covered. Not only does it have 11 cooking functions to suit every need, but transforms into a handy air fryer at just the switch of a lid. Whats more, this makes a great space saver for those who dont want to splash out on buying several appliances. However, the cooker is bulky, and you will need storage space to house the two lids, and accessories that come with it.
Space aside, the Instant Pot Duo Crisp and Air Fryer performs well at its main functions such as pressure cooking, but you may need to experiment a few times with the steaming and air frying settings. Although the air fryer setting was easy to use, it did have the tendency to overcook things, so youll just need to manually adjust any timings or temperatures to suit your tastes. Nevertheless, the food had a delicious flavor and crunch, and still cooked much faster than a conventional oven. But, if its solely the air fryer function youll be using, youre probably best buying a separate air fryer that has more power and designed for that purpose.
Overall, if you need a versatile multi-cooker that happens to have an air fryer, the Instant Pot Duo Crisp and Air Fryer will do a good job.

You also have to use a stainless steel inner pot, and you cant use the air fryer lid with a ceramic inner pot.

This is the first thing I tried, air fryer pork chops! I altered the recipe they provided inside the box a bit but overall it was great. Lightly breaded on the outside as you can see only 1 really fits well. You dont want to overlap your food or else you wont get the texture you want.
The hot air needs to circulate all around evenly. If you have a large family this may not be the option for you as youd need to make multiple batches since the area is so small. For 1-2 people though it works quite well.

Harder To Clean Than Most Air Fryers
One major setback of this model for me is how difficult the air frying rack was to clean. When I finished cooking the chicken thighs with dredged flour and egg coating, the fine mesh wire rack was inundated with gunk. While trying to flip them midway through cooking, much of the coating and skin also stuck to the rack.
The wire air frying rack was no fun to clean.
Most air fryer baskets have a nonstick coating and take seconds to clean after use. For the Duo Crisp with Ultimate Lid, I had to give it a good 10-minute soak to get it clean, but it did all eventually come off with a scrubber, soap and elbow grease. I found it much more difficult to clean than the original Duo Crisp’s nonstick basket and rack, which is completely flat with larger holes that don’t trap as much food.
Other foods including sweet potatoes and frozen snacks didn’t stick to the wire rack. If you’re planning on cooking mostly those foods versus battered foods, you may not have the same issues I did.
The original Duo Crisp requires a separate basket insert for air frying which diminishes the overall capacity. On the upside, it was far easier to clean.

What Does The Instant Vortex Do
It also has four separate preset buttons to making cooking specific items in your air fryer simple. Those presets are:
While these presets are nice to have, I have not been able to find evidence that they offer different cooking functionality other than just being common predetermined time and temperature combinations.
Since there is only one heating element in this Instant Vortex, and the fan speed doesnt change with the different presets, I dont believe there to be a true difference between the air fry functionality and the bake functionality.
What Are The Cons Of The Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid
- The temperature doesnt go higher than 400 degrees. I guess I dont know why Id want it to go higher but I would have liked at least up to 450 degrees.
- Its big and bulky BUT it is far better than having another machine.
- Since the air fryer basket goes into the stainless steel Instant Pot insert, you have to wash both when youre done cooking.
