Instant Pots are beloved because of their ability to cook foods quickly using pressure. But theyre also wildly popular, in part, because theyre true multi-cookers that can be used to braise, sauté, steam, and so much more. But all Instant Pots are not created equaler, not every model can perform every function, and theyre billed accordingly . All Instant Pots can pressure-cook, slow-cook, sauté, and keep warm, and fancier models tack on additional cooking methods like yogurt-making, sous vide cooking, broiling, and air-frying. The functions are customizable, and while you cant air-fry or broil in a model that doesnt have an air-frying lid, people still manage to bake cake in models that dont offer mini oven functionality and make yogurt in models that arent officially marketed for yogurt-making.
The Instant Pot Smart Programs allow you to engage each cookers listed functionality with the touch of a button. Many models also have additional Smart Programs that take the guesswork out of specific items like cake, yogurt, eggs, brown rice, and more. How Big Is The 3 Quart Duo
Overall the Instant Pot Duo Mini is 11.8 x 10.5 x 11 inches, so about a foot in all directions and weighs less than 9 pounds. Im not the strongest or largest person around. For me, this Mini Duo is easy to carry around when I need to move it. And it doesnt take up too much counter space.
From an electric perspective, its heating element is a little less powerful compared to this larger sister. The 3 quart has a 700-watt heating element, compared to the 6 quarts that have 1,000-watt heating elements. I dont have direct experience comparing the two, I havent found that I needed to modify cooking times for recipes. What I have read is that thicker meats may need adjustment, but most of the usual stuff should be able to be cooked without modification.

A Couple Of Considerations When Buying A 3 Quart Instant Pot
First, you cant scale up. Theres only so much food that will fit into a 3 quart. For me thats fine. If you want to roast a whole chicken or larger cuts of meat frequently, the 3 quart probably wont be sufficient as your only Instant Pot.
Second, accessories arent as plentiful as the larger models. Part of the fun with cooking in an Instant Pot is the accessories for different types of dishes such as egg bites and cakes. Make sure you buy the cooking accessories that fit the 3-quart models. Accessories are different and double-check before you buy that it will fit the inner liner, usually they cant be more than 6 inches in width around.
Third, as noted above the smaller Duo model doesnt have all the smart programs of the larger models. Honesty thats been ok for me. Most recipes are written with the manual button so you shouldnt run into a problem by not having the poultry or multigrain program.
Instant Pot Pro Crisp + Air Fryer
The 8-quart Instant Pot Pro Crisp + Air Fryer is the Duo Crisp turned up to 11. This pro model has all the same functionality of the Duo Crisp plus an upgraded lid with advanced heat protection, auto-sealing, and gentle pressure release. In addition to air-frying, the Air Fryer Lid adds broiling, baking, roasting, reheating, and dehydrating functionality to compatible machines.

The new little 3 quart pressure cooker, officially a Instant Pot Duo Mini 3 Qt 7-in-1 Multi- Use Programmable Pressure Cooker, arrived at my door a few weeks ago. Its been on my counter ever since.
The Mini is such a cute little size, but it can do almost everything the bigger 6 quart Duo can do. It doesnt have some of the pre-set buttons the bigger Duo has, but if youre like me, you rarely use the multigrain, sterilize, cake, and egg buttons. All those things can be done / cooked using the Pressure Cook button.
The Instant Pot Company is advertising the Mini as, the ideal companion to the Instant Pot Duo. Perfect for smaller families or to make a small dish for two, side dish or while traveling such as camping, traveling by RV, boating, sailing, hotel excursions.
I couldnt agree more. Its great for all those uses and much of your everyday cooking. But if you want to cook a whole chicken, a big pot of soup, or are having company for dinner, the mini would be too small.
